Busa takes down 900HP Supra and car's motor lets go at 160mph

>"how does a head bolt "stretch"?"<

Don't know about the twin-turbo Supras, but most/many single turbo and non-turbo Supras have lost their head gaskets. It's called BHG (blown head gasket), and was caused by the factory undertorquing the head bolts. Toyota wouldn't do anything about it, unless it blew early.

The fix is to make sure the block and head surfaces are nice and flat, and increase the torque by ~15+ ft. lb. Better is to use ARP head studs. When you get to the 500+ HP levels, you need something better--fatter is stiffer.

BTW, the stock bolts just stretch elastically under high enough boost, just a few thousanths--after using up all the preload (torque-induced stretch). That's enough to let the fire out and wash your windshield.

Could have been multiple different things to cause the HG failure. Under torqued studs, too much boost or timing= knock, surfaces of HG mating surfaces uneven. The list goes on. Nice vid tho.

While I was watching that i found this video... was wondering if anyone else saw something very wrong with there riding style.

Not too much longer and Im sure we will be reading about him in a fallen rider thread, Too bad to, looks like a good rider, just a very unsafe one. :spank:

Hey Fulltilt...

Long time no hear. I was part of the KoS II project. I only got to race Joel in his supercharged vette in "Mexico." I was wondering if that ever made KoS II footage? I got yer email so I should mail you the disclaimer. PM me when you get the chance.

Why on earth would someone put themselves in those situations. It's dumb. No respect for your own life or anyone elses for that matter.

These guys have some mad skillz!! Only problem I see is that it's THE WRONG VENUE. They should take it to the track. I guarantee they'll be FAR from the fastest guys on the track.

You have been looked after GTRPimp

As far as the motor goes, according the the tuner, at 900HP the head starts to lift when the motor is fully boosted - unless you have extra beefy head bolts securing the thing in place. Lifting the head compromises the head gasket and basically screws up the motor pretty badly. Cost him a good bit to get it back on the road again. Class act, though, very cool to have a guy like him come out and run fulltilt.

If you noticed when he first jumped on it. It did back fire.
