Hi all,

Just got back on-line yesterday after @ 11/2 months. I e-mailed Black Sheep (who I bought bike from earlier this summer) and prepared him for the bad news.

My bike is busted.

2001, 10,000 miles, Yosh 3 slip-ons, meticoulisly cared for, run a little hard, always warmed up first, oil and filter last around 8000m. Coolant flushed and tuned up around 4000m, no other problems.

I was running at around 120 in 3rd and holding (guessing) at around 9000 rpm (?) for about 20 secs. As soon as I came off the throttle......whack, whack, whack from the motor. Clutched it, then 3 secs later oil light came on, and I shut it down. .... it then seized. DONE!

I've moved to a really remote part of the country and only have one Suzuki dealer around. He seems ok, but I'm not sure what to do. He says that bike probably wasn't broken in right, but that seems like a lame reason for failure after 10,000 trouble free miles. Never leaked any oil, never had an oil light on, no previous noises etc. Bike has aleways worked great!

He is telling me the crank is to far gone to be turned, bearing is gone, rod and the oil pump is done. The top end apparently is O.K.

He wants 5000.00 Canadian (3500.00 American+-) to fix it. Says he wont put in used parts. It's hours away from where I am and I can't even go to see it. Shipping it somewhere else is not really practical just to compare prices as it will cost at least 1000.00 and a LOT of time (@30 hrs ). I'm on a job anyways so not really an option. He tells me 5 weeks before I will get it back.

Why is my 'busa busted? Is it really that far gone? I have looked at a lot of posts hear and haven't seen anything like this posted.

I was looking at tuning it a bit previous to this, but now I am contemplating a whole new engine? Was considering buying a tuned engine. I am worried about just fixing this one...can I trust it again? What can I expect with a tuned engine etc...$$$.

Help, I'm dying over here!

Not so "Cheers" this time.

That's wierd... and a real Pisser. I would probably go ahead and just check into a fresh rebuild, maybe a big bore kit. Buy a service manual and get the home shop set up. It'll give you something cool to be working on this winter. Build your own, it'll kick ass and you know it will last.

hell you can ship me the bike to north carolina USA and i get you a good used motor with low miles for $2000 off ebay and put it in for $250 and ship it back for less!! i cant see the price being $3500 unless the parts are coming from suzuki Brand new i bet a new cranks over 1000 but a used crank and rods would be fine as long as it had never be damaged which i Have!!! ill sell crank for $450 and rods for $100 but it sounds like a real bad spot you in sense theres no dealers around

Hero my 02 did simialr things after 10,000 miles and no clue as to what it was either completly baffled i spun three main bearings and a rod bearing so my whole block was shot i ended up getting a new short block and going to a 1363 big bore with carrilo rods and alotta extras i stuck alot into my motor but it should be bullet proof now if i had to do over again i think i mighta traded with the suzuki dealer that said i coulda bought there new 03 limited for 4000 plus my bike they didn't know fully what was wrong with it they just thought it was a rod bearing if it only been then it woulda cost me less to

If you plan to rebuild it thought if you can afford it i think it's best to make it better also even if you don't wana go big bore bump up your compression some in this one to give you a few more ponies if you like the possiblites are endless for you at this point

That's a scary sounding motor failure..no warning......You said it's been run fairly hard...Mine also..
I'll get on it real hard but then go back to a low rev cruise..now with my new pipe..it flows so good that it will effortlessly cruise in any gear i want... 5k 6k 7k----say my average rpm for 16k is around 5.5k. What would you say to the same question?
