Can't decide on a busa or XX

Welcome WetRock,  I have ridden both the Blackbird and the Busa.  They are both great bikes, and the Blackbird does have Honda's reliability, good Power, decent handling and decent looks.  However, it also has freakin linked brakes, a bit of a wallowy numb feeling in the corners, a substantial reach to the bars, and some serious mass carried a little high.  It is a sweet bike, but it doesn't talk to you, and you cannot adjust the suspension to try to get it to talk to you.
Getting on the Busa the first time was like being re-born.  On paper there doesn't seem to be all that much to seperate them but when you ride it is immediatly apparant the the Busa is more than the sum of it's parts.  It feels alive, it talks to you, really gets you involved, then you twist your right wrist and ALL doubt is immediatly pushed from your mind...  The Motor is amazing, and the chassis can keep up.  It is hard to explain but the acceleration is truly amazing.  I have found the Hayabusa to be the most emotional bike I have ever ridden, it has character and personality/attitude.  I have found myself more attached to this bike than I have ever been with any machine.  It is also the first machine I have EVER purchased that has lived up to all it's press and Hype, you read all about the Busa experiance and I was sceptical, I mean really, I have been on fast bikes before, it cannot be all of that, right?  Wrong, I have found it to be everything it is claimed to be and more...  Truly I feel it is something really special, a fine bike in every way and it has a soul.
Now there are a few areas that need looked at.  You will want to buy some braided front brake lines,(Factory lines lead to some pretty crappy brake feel) and if you really want to get extra comfy buy some Helibars and maybe a Dubble Bubble screen.  Set up a rear tire fund, as you will be going through them at a pretty good clip.  Small issues for sure, and none of which really detracts in my mind.
As for ridability?  The Busa is a complete (though Torquey) pussy cat below about 6K RPM.  It's nimble for it's size, and is really unintimidating if ridden gently, completely Mr. Hyde if you will.  But...Get it out in the right location, (EMPTY, FAMILIAR)  Twist the throttle to the stop and Doc Jekyl shows up to show you the Beastly side of the Busa, the shear joy with witch the Busa spins the speedo is something not to be missed, 150-160 MPH is addictive and easy and the beast never stops pulling, even past the 160 mark...it's amazing.  Slow back down, and hell, put the Missus on the back and it will toodle around town and country just as happy as can be, no drama, no complaints.
Am I biased? Well of course I am, but in all fairness I really can recommend the Busa to anyone with some previous riding experiance, a level head, and the maturity enough to know when to unleash Doc Jekyl and when to walk around with Mr. Hyde.  It really is just that damn cool!!!  IMMHO

OH, and waiting just a couple of months to see what happens in 04' is a really good idea.  You may have the opportunity to hop on a sweet new Honda or Busa, or you might be able to get a better deal on an 03 if the new flavours do not appeal...
Revlis, I gotta hand it to you on this post.  I think you have explained what it is like to ride a Hayabusa just as good as Ive ever heard anyone explain it and maybe even better. Atleast what you have said, is exactly the way I feel and I mean exactly.......... There is NO other bike that I have ever rode or seen that in a sense talks to you, and gets you involved like the Hayabusa. It truly is amazing, and hard to explain but you explained it pretty good.

O good-fuggin'-God.....

  hav a good 1.....RSD.
Hell I write what I am thinking/feeling.  It's good to be appreciated (Thanks Quazy) and slammed all in one little thread.  I get a stroke and a kick in 30 seconds... Thats pretty cool...

Sounds like RSD got a little emotionally involved then his Macho He-Man side popped out opened another beer and started typing.  I wouldn't have it any other way.

The Busa just has a way of getting me involved emotionally.  I think it is because it is just that freaking powerful, that freakin good.  If you cannot get down with that, then uh...Lemme see...I know this one...wait for it...OH YEAH, GO FUG YOURSELF!!!!!   :bounce:  :bounce:

In true RSD style... :super:

I know this is super shallow, but... the looks of the Honda kept it from being an option for me. I didn't even try sittin' on 'em at the dealers. Of course, none of the bikes I looked at had the lines of a busa... NONE! I sure am glad it was the most comfy of all the bikes I tried.

Wetrock,
I am 58 and have ridden since I was 14. Just bought
a '00 Busa. Don't know about the other bike, but this
is the ultimate bike. I think I've ridden about everything
out there by now, and I can recommend the Busa. As far
as it not handling well around town, that's balony.
By the way, just particpated in the Busa age poll,
called me old as dirt. You never lose the need for speed.
Go for it Wetrock.

Hey Welcome OnHiBusa...If you stick around a little there are plenty of the uh...how do I say this..."Older Wiser Gentleman".... here on the board... Right RSD? :D

Hello all my first post I haven't been lurking long but I felt this was as best time as any to make a statement,

It's funny how most Busa owners think the XX is "ugly"

Prolly about as many XX owners think the Busa is "ugly"

Before I bought mine I was equally interested in the Busa and ZX12.

Mainly my decision came down to reliability issues and the XX
seemed to step forward from the group.

IMHO all 3 are excellent choices and will provide adequate speed
for the "junky' in you. :drink:

Cheers.

Willxx Stick around, we'll educate ya..get you out of your XX rut... :D
Seriously you make a fairly valid point, though you really need to ride a busa just once...the XX will be sold soon after...more than likely...

See what happens? All that Busa Power goes right to the brain...

I will still say that I wish a couple Honda engineers would sneek over to Suzuki...

But I am not giving up my Busa EVER. First Street Bike was a Black Suzuki, I had a little break on a Honda, and now I am home again.

So Kiss my Busa Riden Butt...I was trying to be polite...Ever heard of that you keeerusty Bastid :super:?

Interested in taking a Busa for a test ride but I seriously doubt it would change my mind about my choice....The XX is faster than I need to go as is.

If I needed to go faster nitrous might be the way to go....

I personally don't have anything against the Busa I'm just that happy with my XX :beerchug:

I liked the XX too when I was looking but there was something about it that didn't appeal to me as much as the Zook, the Busa, (which I thought didn't look as nice from the front end), still called out to me somehow ...  I think it was the seating position, the Busa just felt sportier and all around better for me.  I will certainly give the XX a serious look when the '04 comes out, particularly if it's been redesigned but I'm willing to bet, I'll be trading in my current Busa for a new Busa.

Buy the XX. Ride it alot. Get used to medium fast power. Get used to Warp 4.5.
Then sell/ trade in XX for GSX1300R... Full power. Warp 13 & beyond. Full burners.... You get the idea....

;) :D

The Busa is basicly 2 Honda's in one. Other than engine capacity & power the busa's spec chart is virtually interchangable with the VFR800. So the Busa is an interceptor with better than XX speed. Better than either in the twisties. Much cheaper to maintain.

So the winner and still champeen.....BUSA

I think what really closed the deal for me was the seating position...I feel like I am a part of the Busa, Down in it. XX allways felt sorta perched and do not think I ever got really comfortable with the bike.

Ride what suits you though, still not much wrong with the Blackbird...

What did you decide?

Must be the XX, or he would have posted by now...
