car oil vs. moto oil

With all the synthetic oils on the market, is motorcycle oil that much different than car oil?

Some people have mentioned that car oil is easier on clutches than moto racing oils?

i dunno, i know there have been hundreds of posts dealing with it if you do a search

i use and my friends i ride with use mobile 1 gold cap full synth. hope that helps.

I did a search and saw posts by people talking about what oil they use, mainly moto oils. Didn't see anyone on car oil.

Mobil 1 synthetic car oil is what I was considering?

Mobil 1 is great, and even better without the environmental additives. I think the gold cap is the one to use.

You need to be careful when using a car oil in a bike. Some of the additives used in some of the oils will cause the cluch to start slipping.

mobile semi synthetic (blue cap) 5w30 and yes it is the car oil. You can use the full synth (either silver or gold cap) if you choose but that is where you may run into clutch slippage. Most of my friends that drag race with me use the blue cap and keep it about a half quart low to keep the crank from slapping as much oil while it is turning. It may not be safe for street riding to run it low on oil but it doesn't seem to effect anything on the dragstrip...

If you use a car oil...check the label...DON'T use it if it has "Friction Modifiers"

Check out Amsoil brand Motorcycle oils. They have done extensive testing and although not always the best in each test the oil outperform's all others overall. this is a full synthetic oil designed specifically for the motorcycle's wet clutch. find a local Amsoil dealer or visit syntheticshield.com ph number is 918-406-3183 out of Oklahoma.

I've been told by some pretty good M/C mechs that car oil w/friction modifiers is not good for wet clutch bikes.
