Carbs or Injection

I'd have to vote for fuel injection. But, this is based on me not being prone to modifying my bike too much. I just want something solid I can hop on after performing standard checks and head on to the highway.

Ducmanic's comments on FI technology, and where it should go gets a thumbs up from me though. I'm always for advancement, even if there's a few speedbumps on the way.

I probably should have added (if I understand it correctly), that I like the idea of FI and not having to worry about jetting regardless of the altitude I'm travelling through.

The impression I got was FI adjusts for it. If I'm out in left field, let me know.

personaly i'll take efi...in my opinion you can't beat it. really ducmanic's right...everything is made to be improved...i would run carb's on the busa only to spray nos...i'll be using a set of electrons when i'm spraying.my motor guy figured out how to make electrons idle for the street!...because of that, theres no need for keihins....aside from all that i talked with brock davidson fri & sat he told me he's running keihins for now on his busa.also he said that he feels like he'll be able to run nitrous/efi the same way he does it on his 750 shootout bike.and that he just hasn't had the time to try it on his busa.....
my 2 cents efi/carbs....
the injectors can only spray a certain amount of fuel. injectors apply the fuel by a pulse spray. ecm tells the injector how fast to pulse spray. but they can only spray so fast then you have to either change the chip or use a outside box to tell it to spray faster. even then you become limited on what you can do. so then you need to look into things like bigger injectors and bigger fuel pressure device's. thats what ducmanics saying about improving fuel injection....carb's send the fuel in by a stream of fuel. so you can adjust it by changing jets, fuel pump ect...when you do a motor like i did where your building more hp into it thats when these things become a factor....
this probably wasn't a real good way to explain how this all works but it kinda gives you a ideal how it's done....frank

Too bad they dont make flatslide Fuel Injection yet.Hopefully they will, those butterflies in the throttle bodies just plug up horsepower.

If you could have your choice and this was a factory option would you rather your bike had carburetors or the fuel injection? Why?

Here Goes,
Interestingly enough, Kawasaki was the first company to use F.I. on a production MC.
(1981 GPZ 1100). They have used carbs ever since. Its a lot easier to set up a bike with
carbs. Cheaper, and less complex. I know you guys will probably disagree, but i think a set of 41-43mm flat slides would run a lot better than the stock FI on the Bus. Yes, i know its a step backwards for technology but still an improvement over the stock low end "hesitation."
I have carbs on one of my other bikes and like the way it pulls over FI. Emission
requirements aside, nothing pulls as hard, for me as a set of dialled in carbs. I welcome the groups response.
Frank made an interesting comment about using two Power Commander Box's, One on
"Stock Map" and one set at -8-10 degrees for full throttle No2 (Nitrous Spray).
I think until the stock ECU has an "E prom" chip like the Webber-Minerelli FI we are still looking at something with room for improvement. I think all these FI systems are
what we call "closed loop". What we need is an "open loop" FI system. Expensive? Yes. But still an improvment. (IMHO)

i had carbs on my zx11. Problem one, took 5 minutes to warm up. Problem 2 when i went up to 11000 feet or so the bike wouldnt idle, number three had to sync the carbs all the time. Number four have to change jets when changing exhausts.......With fuel injection I got rid of all of those problems.....whats not to like about fuel injection?

Call me old fashioned if you like, but for all out horse power carb's are much more "user friendly". All of this remapping of the ECU is just guessing up to the present! I live in an area that has 10 Hayabusa's. Only 1 person has installed a pipe so far, and it fell way short of what you would expect. This peticular bike was tuned and remaped on a dyno,at least 10 times, 3 HP was the best they could do! Unless Suzuki can get a handle on the cut out's , I wouldnt be suprised to see a set of 48mm CV carb's on the 2000 Hayabusa! BTW I have access to 2 more Yosh pipes still in the box. If anyone is interested. Brian

What evidence is there to suggest that the cutouts that some have had are due to the FI or ECU? What about some of the "cures" that have been reported that involve the fuel pump and filter?

Have you ever tried to keep those lousy cables adjusted on a set of lectrons on a street bike? If you haven`t don`t....they suck...I wouldn`t care if he got 100 hp if I had to run them on the street. For the old timers ...remember when Honda came out with the 69 750 with individual cables...it took them one year to get rid of that crap.

Carbs for me for now... Ducmaniac and I see it the same way. Until you can write to the PROM, I want needles, jets, and mixture screws.
