Chain was shot and the new cush drive really smoothed the on/off throttle slack. Even though the old cush rubbers were the same kind, from Schnitz, they’d been in that hub for at least 50,000 miles and 10-12 years. That's a lot of heat and a lot of shifting. No noise from the drive train now. I’ve always used Maxima chain wax but recently tried the DuPont silicon wax lube but not knowing just how many miles I had on that chain, I can’t really blame the lube. I rode thru heavy rain and snow along with hot desert temps towards the end of the chain and that’s when I noticed the noise. I had picked up a piece of wire in the chain somewhere and thought it got caught in the counter sprocket but it hadn’t. I’ll keep track of the new D.I.D chain and sprockets.
