There was chain lube all over the place, swing arm, frame, belly wing, etc. I read some previous threads and used kerosene and a tooth brush. I used Bel Ray's chain lube and I hope it does not sling all over the place. I dont plan to ride today so hopefully it will set up and not make a mess. Now the question. I have noticed that both wheels are covered in brake dust after every ride. Is this normal? I dont remember having this problem with other bikes I have owned in the past.

i lube the chain after riding, the chain being hot will melt the chain wax into the chain, this way your not spinning the chain with the oil/wax and having it spray all over everything, it will soak in rather than fling off.

Brake dust is normal. The OEM painted rims clean up the easiest with some WD-40 and a rag. The rear tire is always is the worst. I have even tried not using my rear brake and it still gets dirty.

WD-40? I use windex. Does the WD-40 leave a film?

nope. It cleans them and makes them shine. By far the easiest way to clean them that I have tried. It also makes it easier to clean them the next time since not too many things stick to WD40.

+1 WD40 is the best way to clean the rims and swingarm. Don't forget to clean behind the front sprocket cover as it really gets caked up with dirt, grit and chain wax. To do it you need to remove the left lower fairing, unbolt the coolant bottle, remove the kickstand, take off the front gearshift lever, and loosen up the cover bolts and take off. Clean the clutch rod too and lube up with some grease when putting back in.

Brake dust is normal and chain lube fling is normal.

Better to have more fling and lube the chain correctly than to not lube it enough and have a clean bike

Always lube the chain when its hot.

Thanks for the tips guys, I will use the WD-40 for sure. I really, really need a stand. I rolled the bike in and out of the garage twice to get it done.

Ya that rolling the bike back & forth to clean & lube the chain is a real pain, my Redline stands should arrive tomorrow, WAAAAHOOOO!

I use WD-40 with excellent results! Another twist on this is Pledge! Yes the Furniture polish. Cleans the wheels great and it helps to reduce the dust collection on the next go around. After all it is designed to prevent dust build up on furniture!

Also if you don't have a rear stand you can run a piece of 1/2 rod stock through the swingarm pivot and suspend it on a couple of car Jack stands!

CBX, I have seen that stand before, looks like a lifesaver if you needed it. Thanks for the link.
