I'm currently looking for 600cc to take to the track. I' ve seen some bikes that need work, some have salvage titles some have clean titles. To my understanding and correct me if i'm wrong a title is still clean as long as the accident is never reported. and could i use that fact as a bargining point.

Clean title means the bike was never "salvaged" and there is no lien against the title.

A salvage title comes about if the bike was wrecked and insurance totalled it. Sometimes the bike is sold back onto the market and a salvage title is issued. It's big brother's way of letting us know this vehicle was totalled at some point in it's life.

A salvage title will sell for less than a clean title. Also, most shoppers avoid salvage title. Too many headaches trying to sell it later.

If it's never reported the title will still be clear cause no one knows any different. But if there were any other vehicles involved in the wreck then by law it has to be reported. You're given a deadline by the officer working the accident of when you have to notify your insurance. Usually about 5-15 days. If there weren't any other vehicles involved and it's not turned in on insurance than you'll still have a clear title. I'm not sure if that's legal or not. . . I've never looked into it.

Yea, I forgot to mention the part about it coming from the bike being totaled. Looks like you got it covered pretty well, though, so I'll just leave it at that.

no clue about these other states but TONS of ways to "total" a bike ie: damage costs, theft recovery, flood damage, fire damage.

Any way you look at it, the only way a bike is branded "totaled" by the police is theft recovery. There are MANY cases where insurance companies deem a vehicle beyond margin for repair (ie: totaled) and the owner chooses to keep the vehicle a and receive a lesser payout but retain a clean title. But the brand in most cases comes fromt he insurance company via the DMV.

In PA, if 2 vehicles collide and are both road worthy AND no injuries or unreported property damage...the police never even have to be called. If a one vehicle accident occurs, and no injury, the vehicle is road worthy and no unreported property damage has occurred....once again, no call to the cops.

EVEN IF A COP IS CALLED IN PA, YOU NEVER ARE FORCED TO INVOLVE YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY. Your insurance information will be checked to be current and you will exchange it with anyone necessary. The insurance company is only involved if a party deems it necessary.

and yes, definitely with a sportbike.....your bike can be totalled and still be legally road worthy.
