Ok, well, heres the story...
I just spent the last week in NYC and it was FABULOUS!! Friday night was absolutely amazing, well it started off AMAZING!!
Ok, now let me get to the bad part of the night.....
So, we leave the street corner, head thru Time Square where EVERYONE is staring! Make a few turns, ride a few blocks and decide to get on the Brooklyn Bridge to open up and "ride"
So, were all in formation, makin the turn and im the 3rd one from the rear. I get my speed right for the turn (approx 45mph) and make the lean, lightly touchin the rear brake and the bike just stands straight up and starts headin for the curb!!! I didnt know what was goin on so i fought and fought to keep the bike in the lean but it was no use! I grinded the curb with the front fender like i was on a skateboard tryin to grind the rail! front wheel kicked out and the bike low sided on me tossin me into the crub and into the other lane of traffic. I get up, pick the bike up and roll it to the shoulder where my two boys behind me meet me. ONe looks at me with a blank frightened stare and says..
friend...."dude, what the hell just happened??"
me..."man, i dont know, i was in the lean and the bike stood up. Not sure why"
friend..."i know why!! look at your undertail!"
At this point i glance back and see my problem!! WOW!!! The undertail is sitting on the rear wheel!
The company that reinstalled the stock undertail on the bikes had FORGOTTEN TO PUT THE TWO MAIN BOLTS BACK IN PLACE BEHIND THE TRUNK LATCH!! They only installed 4 pushpins and that what was holdin the undetail in place. I havent had the chance to do any aggressive riding, nor have i been on any streets that would really jar the hell out of the undertail, so im not all too suprised it stayed in place as long as it did!
Im here to tell you that I am very thankful i was wearin full gear, well, everything but knee pucks. I did have some scrapes and a swollen knee. Gloves, shoulder pad and helmet all had a few scratches were my upper torso met the concrete.
I partially blame the custom shop on not putting the bike back together properly, but i MOSTLY blame myself by not goin thru and properly checkin EVERYTHING that was removed and reinstalled.
Please everyne check your bolts and push pins and make sure everything is TIGHT or tightened to spec! I just thank the good lord above that I wasnt leanin into a 90mph turn when this happened!! Im very lucky and blessed to be tellin yall this story! Sorry so long winded, just had to open up and get this out
Be careful and WEAR YOUR GEAR!!
Oh, and does anyone have any clue where i can get a 2006 Black/Silver fairing?? Most places seem to be backordered or not offering these yet...
