Considering trying Maxton

yes there is no one running next to you, BUT the real fast guys/gals have a drag racing back ground/skills. I thought one mile, no problemo, boy was I humbled.I plan to drag race just so I can have the skill to get something out of first and second gear. the first 60 feet are so important. rcc stage one 250 hp(my ride) 18/40or 39. bruce

There's mixed thoughts on the importance of the 60' at Maxton Bruce. Personally I think the tuck counts for a lot more then the 60' foot.
Watch some of the heavy hitters from the start line & you'll see what
I mean. I think a lot of the fast runners have a background in racing
be it Drag or Road Race. Racers like to race, but I don't think either
of them necessarily makes you a good LS racer. Experience at speed
helps a lot but the actual skill set for either type, it never hurts
but I don't think it's necessarily what makes our fast racers fast.
Just my thoughts.

sooo..... when's the last time you ran, what speed did you run & when are you coming back Bruce?

I've was there in sept. rookie school on an old 86 vfr750 honda 36.000 miles on it. got that up to 143 something which at the time I thought sucked. came back in oct with a bone stock busa got that up to an embarssing 173. first run 150,had to, second run hit a major bug in 4th gear, put a blob on my shield the size of a silver dollar, backed out a second hit 163 3rd run the mental midget I am shifted into 6th way too early 173. woke up sun morning with a stomach virus and could not run- bummer. the good thing I figured out on the way home was I still got my 175 licence and as they say I'm good to go. I have alot to learn and improve on and the tuck will be very important for me at 6' 1" that and a decent start and the fact that over the winter went RCC stage one, dynoed out at 250 hp. also lowered, strapped and a few other tricks. I'm shooting to crack 200, but will take it slow/safe after the long layoff. I live in upstate NY so I have not rode it yet. I agree the tuck is crucial. looking forward to meeting you in april !! Bruce 9538 black 07 ps at some point I'd like to bring my ole honda back a crack at 150!

Good stuff Bruce! Old is rather irrelevant in this sport as most of us are still trying to catch up with Guthrie's speeds and I do believe he's got a few years on you and still on top of his game!

There's nothing at all embarrassing about an actual timed speed of 173mph! If you don't believe me go talk to some non-racers & watch their eyes bulge out. We just get conditioned to the "norm" and the "fast" and judge our selves by that. Do you know how many times I've heard speeds from 230-250 being referred to as it was "only". I've taken it upon myself to provide the reality checks for those folks and pretty much all of them do stop & think & then laugh at how they've lost perspective that those speeds are fast regardless of any other measurement!

Couple things that popped into mind reading your post.
1) by "strapped" if you mean you strapped the front end like they do for drag racing then absolutely loosen it or remove it for Maxton. You need suspension!!! The ride will be too stiff & you may have handling issues.
2) If you really want to bring the "old" bike back out I'd suggest the September street bike shootout. If your bike is a registered street legal bike & you're the rider, there is a 150 index class you can run on if you sign up. Signing up is just that, sign up & try, nothing extra to pay. The closest run to 150 takes home a mighty nice jacket with a street bike shootout patch! Makes for some fun on the side. Last years winner was a new kid who was running for the first time with us!
3) I don't know Rich Yancy's exact height but I swear he's like 6'5"￾ & he's been 240 more then once! It just takes a little more work for you tall guys!

Looking forward to seeing you there! If you tech on Friday I'll be the one checking your paperwork. Otherwise look for me in line. I'm #1302.

deb, IF I had just left it in 5th and not shifted I've been told I would have gone over 180.Rich is one great guy I was lucky to be behind him at both meets and he answered all my stupid questions, very friendly, considering he built the fastest and most famous busa in the world! after the sept meet I was bitten and bought a used 07 for oct. picked up the last parts at UPS thur. morn. and finished at the motel that nite ! I don't know how tall be is, but it's rare I have to look up that far! I'd guess 6'7" I can't believe his bike was not on this years poster! see-ya fri. bruce
