Corporate America

Sorry about the bad news, but you know... see it as an opportunity, sometimes these things turn out to be the best things. In 5 years time when you're running your own successful business you may turn around and say...

"If I hadn't been laid off I may never have taken the risk and done it".

Good luck!

Thanks a ton guys! Some great feedback in this thread. Especially interesting to hear some of your stories. I guess my biggest mistake was taking my job for granted. And your all right, I will come out on top. I can feel it.

Thanks again!

I can't agree with you more on Family and Corporate America.
Hang on something will come along and it will be better.
I lost my job with Motorola about 9 years ago, the day after hearing the news I put an application in at Intel... hired in 6 six weeks. Let them pay for the education and now I always putting out resumes every 6 months or so just to keep the feelers in the water.
good luck and keep your focus on the family... cause in the end thats what matters...

I'll send some prayers up for you, bud....for fortune, strength, and the well-being of your family.

Just another stone on the pathway of life....and it appears that you will learn from it immensely. Good luck on your new path...

It's something so many face...I count my blessings today that my hubby and I are in stable jobs, though his from time to time his job gives us a scare. He's gone through downsizing and closing up shop, but we were lucky they found a new place to put him and he's still very much needed at this point...

I don't know how anyone's ever prepared for something like that...we all get quite complacent in our jobs and forget that anything can change in an instant. I'm very guilty of that myself...

I wish you the best and I'm so happy to hear about the new baby on the way!

Good luck finishing school; there are better things on the horizon for you...hang in there and things will work out.

Hey bro. keep your head up, sounds like ou have the right outlook on things. YOu are correct in saying that at the end of the day all we have is our families. Things weren't always like this.

I don''t know what your feelings are about religion, but stay grounded in the Lord. I know that he allows everything to happen for a reason, He never closes one door without opening another, and He will never put more on us than we can bear.

I wish you the best and continue to take care of home.

To say that Corporate America sux is being kind to them. I feel for you. And hope you will come out of this Ok. It seems like we are in a generation, one of several, that will never be able to retire. My father worked for Reynolds Aluminum for 44 years and has a great retirement. But he was the last of that generation. In the last several (many) years Reynolds has managed to close and reopen many times for various reasons and each time the folks lose some of the benefits and retirement so that I don't think anyone will ever retire from there again. But the Company is stronger than ever. In my case I am doing no better. I always thought the Government was a safe place to work. Put in the years and retire. Not so. We are not much better than anyone else any more. I have been here for almost 17 years and found out a coupla' months ago that the Gov in it's infinate wisdom is closing this base. This is the only Deep Water Port on the entire Gulf Coast that the Military or Gov owns. Makes no sense to me or anyone down here. I could transfer to somewhere else in the country but at about half of what I make here. Helluva choice. So as of now I'm not sure what I will do. But what really pisses me of is that last week the Gov announced that they will be building a multi-million $ Controlled Warehouse facility in Robstown about 35 miles away from here. In the local politicians hometown. He is such a snake. But that's another story. The problem is that we were fighting for that facility here. After all we have highway frontage, a rail spur and water frontage, Deep Water Port. Robstown will have to transport equipment 25 miles to the Port of Corpus Christi for water borne shipping. They have no security or facility's. We have all that and more here. And why spend almost 10 Mil to build a facility there when it could be built here for less than a quarter of that if you include all that we already have here. Bullshit politics will be the end of us all. Anyway, sorry to here about your situation and wish you the best.

In the area where I live, coal mining is a huge part of the local economy. I have seen corporations close mines, and the government help them in their quest to increase profits at the expense of the working man/woman. The greed of corporate America sickens me to my core. There are peple that argue this with me here on this board, but I doubt any of them will pipe up about how great corporate america is in this thread. In the lust for the almighty dollar, many people's life has been laid to waste.

Wow, I guess this really hits home with alot of you. It really is sickening. I want to write back to each one of you for your support, but Im short on time. I will do my best.

NCBusa2001: Thanks for the advice. I think you are right about the healthcare industry. There are two things in this world that will never change. People will get sick, and people will wreck cars. Two fine professions.

Big Wall, both of you at the same time?!?!?! Damn fro, that had to be rotten. At least ya got to spend time together!

jwcfbd, got any schooling under your belt?

Truwrecks, Amen brother!!

Strkr00, I am surprised, but not really surprised to here the gov is turning into a corporation. I think your not the only one to mention it in this thread.

Rosco, Your kind words are deeply appreciated, cheers bro.

MrGxr, sounds like you are on to something there! Use their resources for your gain. I love it!

VaBusa, That baby is a true godsend to us. We have been trying for so long its silly. She just passed the 12 week point so we are pretty confident that misscarriage worries are over. YEEEE HAAAAAWWWWWW!!!

Southside Playa, You mentioned, "Things weren't always like this". So true, you have to wonder how we let it get this far. Iguess in many cases, such as my own, it was sheer ignorance. About religion. I am definitley a believer, I do not make it to church often enough, but I can see that what you say is true.

Goldwanger, that sounds like a crappy situation. I hope you can find something!!!!

Mr Brown, Preach on brother!!!

Again, thanks to all of you for the support! You guys are giving me more fuel to keep my head up and keep fighting. I had no idea, this issue was so deep rooted in each of us.

I don't care how good a job is , I will never work for a large co. . When I moved here my dad said that boeing was opening a new plant and that I should apply. I told him why , so that after 10 years when I have a house and credit cards and lots of bills I could get laid off and be screwed! Sure enough boeing has laid off more people every year and i'm sure I would have been one of them . Screw big co.s .

For every door that closes, another opens. So true! One only need to read your post to know you are articulate and have your priorities in order. Employers will be fortunate to have you in whatever field you choose to be involved in. I know from experience how you are feeling right now. When I was discharged from the navy I had a new son and barely enough money to rent a trailer for our few belongings and gas to get home. I had no money to rent someplace to live or food for the family. I was sick inside thinking about how we were going to make it! I was so desperate I even tried to donate blood, but they wouldn't accept mine as I had just returned from Viet Nam. Somehow we made it and you will too! Please know you have many friends on the org. pulling for you and are here with a helping hand if needed. Hang in there!

our prayers are with ya ononewheel. with big corp, you are just a number, it really stinks. congrats to you and the wife with the child, there is nothing like them, your life will never be the same, it will be much better. best of luck to you and your family.
