(1)What is an appropriate cost to remove the counter-balancer alone?

(2)At what cost if there is head and valve work already in progress?

(3)Do the cases have to be split for removal?

(4)What is the approximate weight gain?

As always the help from the board is greatly appreciated !!

As far as cost if you can't do it yourself, leave it as is. Most of the gains i have seen on my ZX-11 are at 9000rpm's and above. They have many Point/Counterpoints on rotating mass in an internal combustion engine. If you want HP their are more productive and cost effictive avenue's to consider. :-) Brian

Brian,
so your saying that the hp will not show up until 9000rpm on a dyno run? By my running top-end then this seems to be oaky? When you say cheaper, what would you say is expensive?

I personally would not remove the balancer unless you plan on sending the crank to someone like falicon or APE to balance. The gains will not be worth it on a street bike....drag bike yes.

Wolf...If you are looking for more HP consider milling the block ( jug) .020 and get adjustable cam sprockets to ofset the lowering of the head which will throw your cam centerlines off. More compression will allways pump up the low rpm HP and that is where most races are won or lost. It is really hard to run down and pass a bike that is allready 4 bikes ahead. With the right setup you can let the other bike play catch up instead :-) Brian

no you don't split the cases.just pan removal and an oil line or2.the balancer takes away power at all speeds.the balancer is there because the engine is solid mounted period.this setup would have transmitted vibration to the rider so hence the answer the balancer.the power gain will increase with the rpm.at idle is where it is most noticable less as rpms increase.if stock bar ends are used it feels prety much the same.

Thanx to all.

cbxchris- what is the long term damage? The bike will run 10k miles per season and at high rpms.
BrainO- cam work also done, thanx. This is an attempt to squeeze more hp w/o piston work.
Motorhead- thanx

I didn`t say there would be damage just that on a street bike riden with as many miles as you say 2 hp will not make much of a difference. This falls under the theory if it ant broke don`t fix it....
