Customizing Your Bike

Just saw the link that Dazee put up...takes me a while to catch up...
Definately has given me some ideas.

Pete,
Welcome to the year 2000.
My wife rides my Busa occasionally and handles it with no problem. Shes about 5'7" and average build.
I love when the guys in cars with no clue about Bike performance try little street games with her. There faces after a whooping are timeless.
Because she is a girl I am unpleasantly surprised at the reactions she gets most of the time, mainly from men. They can't stand for her to get ahead of them traffic, its not my imagination as I see it all the time when we ride.
Hopefully, she will trade her SV650 for GSXR750 come spring, then we will trade bikes more often.
Bob

Hey guys I ain't sexist, honest. Just realistic. You guys are proud of your women on big bikes because it IS unusual.

Now, like you, I gotta flash my Non Pig Sensitive 90s Guy Credentials.

Way back in the sixties way before Lib hit the streets, my woman (5'10") used to dress in a tight, shiny, metallic silver jump suit, hop on my 1965 Norton 750 G15 Scrambler, which was outrageously modified, noisy, and the fastest thing on the street in its day, and cruise past the biggest downtown Toronto Bad Biker Hang Out Lot on Saturday nights. She'd rip away from the light beside their lot (no helmets in those days, but she didn't need to be minus helmet for a spectator to tell she was a woman) and those bikers would go out of their cannabis & beer addled minds with indignation.

They'd haul their lardy asses onto their choppers, kick'em over and race out after her. But she was long gone before those guys hit the curb.

I just gloated. No one in Toronto had ever seen a woman on anything but a Honda 90 Sport until then.

I'm in no way putting you or your gender down, Lisa...Lisa are you there?...I'm just sayin' it's great that you're doin' it!

Now that all the sexual politics are resolved, fellow Politically Correct Busa Boys, can we hear from Lisa and help her out with customizing and perhaps learn a little from her?

Or maybe she's out putting her makeup on...

STRIKE THAT COMMENT!!!!!!!!!

By the by guys (sorry to co-opt your thread once more Lisa)...

My loving wife, the Mother of my Children, a saint among sinners, is big and strong with veins bulging out of her massive forearms, and hamstrings like Schwartzenegger.

No poop. I win money pitting her against my buddies' wives and girlfriends in arm wrestling.

"MY WIFE CAN BEAT YOUR WIFE!" I announce over the blaring Lyle Lovatt tune. After a couple of beers, that is.

She has never been beaten by a woman, and has beat some men.

She earned those muscles riding 1,300 pound horses (dressage, cross country and jumping) her whole life. Since she was 6, anyway. She weight trains and runs, too. She's 34.

She could easily handle the weight of any bike if she wanted. But she doesn't (thank God).

I do Iron Horses. She does Flesh Bikes.

I like physically strong women and am not attracted to the weaker examples of that sex.

Vive la difference!

Now, you know there's usually a little edge in my posts, so here it comes:

I've have always believed that a person should not ride a bike they can't pick up. They shouldn't ride it alone at least, for obvious safety reasons. Vegas, can your wife pick up that dresser? How about that GSXR1100?

Lisa, can you pick up your Busa?

Peter,
Most of us have not had occasion to pick up our bike's. For you to ask Lisa that is even more sexist that your first post. How many of the guys on this list can pick up their bikes. I seriously dought i can. Hope i don't have to find out. Not all of us drop bikes on a regular basis. IMHO. How many of
us have never droped our Bussa'? New Thread?

You GOT to be able to pick up your bike.

I can.

And I've had to do it many times, as you lads are always gleeful to point out.

Actually, my wife helped me once when The Beast went off its Non Harley Stand right in front of our home one day, and I took the opportunity let her do most of the lifting.

It's good for her butt muscles, she says.

I agree.

God we need Lisa to put this thread back on the customizing track before we all go mad.

Where are you Lisa? In the weight room?

I have an article from one of the Japanese magazines about some Suzuki owners going cruising in the country for the weekend. Only 1 Hayabusa present and yes it is a girl riding it. 5'2" tall. 46Kg and 24 years old - Japanese magazines love posting vital stats of any woman !! As part of the bike pre-test here you have to be able to recover a big old manky 750cc bike from the ground before they even let you take the proper test. I have a theory that women are smarter than men when it comes to this, they use brain power and technique to recover the bike, instead of my normal approach of brute force and ignorance. I would love to read Lisa's comeback on this, but then she is probably smarter than that .... :)

Well, in response to all the questions out there...I do in fact own a 'busa.' Traded in my blackbird for this new Suzuki. And just so you all know, I can pick the bike up. We had a track day in Spokane the last weekend in July, and since my track bike hadn't gotten there yet (I rode the busa out from Seattle, and one of my friends was trailering my F3 for me), decided to take the 1300 out. Got about 30 good laps, and went off the track between turn 7 and 8. I went down on the left side, and there is a small hill and when the bike smacked into that it flipped over. So I managed to scab up both sides of the bike (what luck), and to think that I almost decided not to take the busa out, but I just couldn't resist. So of course had to pick up the bike and ride it in to the pits, which was difficult because the fairing stay and windshield had been smashed up into the bars, so turning was a bit difficult. However, almost all of my new plastic is in, and am thinking of repainting the old set just to have something different looking on those special occations. Will probably order a race rear end just to customize it a bit more. As for size, I am 5'10, 160ish and I do very physical type work for my job, so I guess am pretty strong, although I don't work out officially. But I think you have to be pretty stong to race.

Lisa: Checked the URL you gave us.

I didn't really notice the decals with all those amazing mechanical and brightwork changes to that bike.

It would handle pretty weird, at least for what I want out of a bike, but it sure looks awesome. In fact, it's my new screen saver, so thanks.

What have you done to YOUR Busa? Do you have one? Please don't take this as sexist, but I can hardly imagine a woman choosing to own a Hayabusa.

Harley Sportsters, Honda Hawks, Viragos, yes...but a Hayabusa? They're uncomfortable, huge and vicious, like many of my clients. There is absolutely NOTHING female about a Busa.

But on the reasonable assumption that you do have one, what do you do with it? Do you drag, road race, boulevard cruise, street strafe, canyon carve or trip on your Busa?

Are you big and muscular or an average size, average strength woman who has unusual riding talent?

Funny, I just complained yesterday on another thread that there seems to be no women on this site.

What kinds of customization are you looking for? Purely visual like paint, decals and chrome, bolt-on stuff like wheels, rearsets and windscreens, or are you into mechanical alterations like brake lines, polishing, fender eliminators and such?

There's plenty of news and advice on all of those directions in these threads.

If you have specific questions, just post away!

Welcome Lisa. You have to learn to ignore the sexists and winers. If you can do that you'll learn a great deal and contribute to a great web site too. Dirty Pete is more often than not, one of the more reasonable voices.

Thanx for the URL. I'll try it.

Hello Angela, I bet Dirty Pete is about to meet his match , when it comes to a woman beating him on a motorcycle....By the way Angela, keep up the good work!!!!

Looked at your URL. The bike is way cool. I might start to like the black busa with that tape. Thanx.

Lisa: The Hayabusa on Tapeworks web page is mine. I have won alot of bike shows with it. I have also modified and now have the correct pipe on it. The swing arm is adjustable 8 to 14 inches and everything else is chrome.

Geez, people........her name is Angelle! And Big Pete, she rides a Pro Stock bike for Star Racing in NHRA competition. She is currently number one in the points and well on her way to her first National Championship. She was featured in People Magazine recently and has been on numerous speed shows and in numerous publications. All you need to do is pick up a National Dragster or spend a little time on dragbike.com.

You call yourselves motorcycle enthusiasts? The sad part is, she even rides a Suzuki! Duh.....

P.S.

Angelle,

I won't run you heads up, but I would love a shot at a best two out of three bracket race.... LOL!
