DC Metro Riders - General Thread for DC, MD, VA, DE, PA

Just back on the board today. Missed out on most of the great riding weather over the weekend - fractured my ring finger (clutch hand) playing football Saturday morning. Rode 20 miles in the afternoon, but had to "be smart" and put it away unitl after getting the finger diagnosed/treated. Spent Sunday at Emergency and followed up Monday with a specialist. Looks like I'll be able to ride as long as I find a way fit my splinted into my gloves. :cheerleader:

Typing, on the other hand (no pun intended), is bit@h!

Does anyone know if I have to get a safety inspec. at a MC dealer or can I take it anywhere where they do inspections?

How's the finger coming? It could've been worse. It could have happened in another two weeks when good riding days are every day, right?

The good medical folks that I'm fortunate enough to have on the case have managed to set me up with a low profile splint that allows me to do just about everything. Went for short ride yesterday and didn't have any clutch problems at all.

The healing period is supposed to be anywhere from 6-8 weeks, which can vary even more if you do stupid things like catch the splint between the left grip and the fairing (without realizing it) and then trying to walk away from the bike. That hurt and may have set me back. Bottom line, this is gonna last me well into the "good riding days are every day season".

Right now my goal is to be able to make that April 11 ride that Postal is headin' up. Anybody else lookin' to join that one?

BASHERS BASHERS!!!!!!1 Check in, reserve room or buddy up with someone, pay for yoru food in advance ( wellworth it) and get ready!!

Its right around the corner, Im going to starta thread for the region to see whos going:thumbsup:

10-4. All I know about Woodbridge is Potomac Mills...right? Other than that, I'd leave it to you to suggest a meeting spot.

I'll have to get back with so I can think of a good spot with out have to have you come all the way into Woodbridge. I'm thinking of the exit that the navyfed is off of. I'll let you know which one that is when i find out

I think several of us might be able to join up for the ECHR Ride on the 11th. Hope I'll make it, but with three teens in the house and all the activities we shuffle them around on, well, my boss will let me know if I can go.

MMG, it's good you got help for that finger. I hurt my pinkie once and splinted it myself with something from the drug store just to keep it from hurting. Had no idea that it was actually broken. Several weeks later I went to the doctor because it still hurt. Doc x-rayed it, told me it was healing well, and that it will be forever bent because I didn't go to the doctor in the first place to have it set properly. Live and learn....

Hope it works out that some of us can meet up on the 11th, maybe even before since some of us have chatted offline.

- Cheers, AJ

Hopefully the boss says you can go.

I learned that lesson around 2000. This is my 2nd broken finger from playing football. Last one was my pinky which I broke about 9 years ago. I went to the emergency room the same day on that one b/c, although it was only a fracture, it swelled up and turned color and was hurtin' pretty good. Unfortunately, I was in PG Cty at the time and they just gave me a hard cast and sent me home. No specialist, no follow up, no re-hab, nothing. It wasn't until a few months later that I learned I should've been rehabing the finger once out of the cast. As a result, I lost a bit of the negative (hyperextended) range of motion.

If anybody's up for local informal rides, etc., post it up. I try to get a couple miles every chance I get and I'm starting to run out of new roads around here.

Secondary (and classic) Ride: 1985 Suzuki GS550ES (A giant killer in it's day.)
I may have to swing by your way to see you 1985 Suzook. I really miss my 1985 GS700E. Still one of my favorite bikes, not as nimble as your 550, but prettier. I keep scanning Craigs List. One of these days I'm gonna find a decent one for under $1500 and buy it. The good ones I see reasonably priced are always gone by the time I find them.
