Dealer Allotment Info?

My local dealer in the Los Angeles area was alloted 14 units-- and no more for the '99 model year. He said some were sold and immediately shipped east of the Mississippi where the 'Busa was hard to get. Some dealers received as few as 2. He did not charge over list <$10,499> for any of his, to my knowledge. Were you gouged by your dealer? Anybody get theirs UNDER list?? Thanks-

List price all the way. In fact, there's still new busas sitting on some showroom floors. Seemed like 12 for LA was small. The local dealer got 9 and we're in Austin, TX. My guy told me that they could request their numbers and that it wasn't an allotment. He told me some of the dealers in large metro areas only ordered 2 or 3 as they didn't know how well the new bike would do. He's even dealer transferred a few from other dealers who couldn't sell their's. Go figure!

In Canada, I bought mine for $11,900, which translates to $7,800 in U.S. funds.

We don't have the precious Harley-Davidson company to protect here, so we don't put massive duties on imported motorcycles like the U.S., Germany, Japan, Italy, and England do.

Dirty Pete, that's the price the dealer pays for the bike shipped from Japan. The Harley import tax was dropped years ago by Harley them self since they wrote the Government stating that they can do without the import tax since they are out of the red.I'll try to find the date that this was done.
My bike out the door is $11,399 from SeaSide,California.Dealer Yamaha/Suzuki Sports Center.

Dirty Pete, What would be involved in buying one of your dealer's $7800 Busa's (Red & BLack?) and trucking it into USA ?

I have $7800 and a pickup truck. I'm willing to do a lot of bureaucratic bull for a $3700 savings.

Lyle, I don't know what the deal is on that. You'd have to speak to a customs broker.

It may be a moot point anyway though, because Busas are as scarce here as there.

My dealer is the biggest in Canada however, and has lotys of clout. You're free to talk to the store manager. His name is Bob and he really knows the market. Maybe he can find you one at another dealer or at least take a refundable deposit on an 00 Busa. Tell him Peter Langmuir with the black Busa suggested you call.

His number is (416) 291-9858.

I also talked to Tim and he said that you would also have to pay more than msrp plus appraisal fee, set up fee, taxes and license fee's. Sounds like more than a 1000.

Didn't mean to mislead.

Lamont,

Were any other colors available for the tape work/graphics you did on your slick Busa? And did you notice any greater stability with chrome on your barends? I was thinking the additional weight might be a plus and save on buying heavier b-ends.

Thanks.

dirty pete, if you got yours for 7900.00 in us dollars i want to know what cost is.the usa models are 1000.00 more,so there's about 1600.00 mark up,8900 to 10499.

Busa: I don't know what the dealer cost was or is. When a dealer shows you his "cost," which mine doesn't but some do, their factory "invoices" do not include factory deals, rebates or volume discounts to the dealer.

When I put down my deposit in Feb., the asking price was $12,999 Cdn. Suzuki Canada had a $400 customer rebate going and my dealer had a $500-off sale offer.

Today in Canada, the going price is $13,999 wih no deals.

I have no idea how tariffs and customs affect all this.

Byhalia: If you go to www.tapeworks.com it will show you a listing of all colors available. As far as greater stability it's hard to say if the chrome helped, but I've had the Busa up to 180mph, no shaking handling smooth at that speed until I got scared and let off the throttle.

Pete, I called your dealer and had a good conversation with him. Very helpful guy. If the cost is $13,999 CND @ yesterdays exchange rate 1.47 the USD Cost is $9523. Then we guesstimated $300 in Customs tariff's. I figured my cost to truck it to Penna at $200. You have to pay the Canadian Tax until you can prove that you exported it. What your dealer does is a credit card charge for the tax. When you fax him a Customs Receipt he tears up the credit card slip. So Canadian Tax is no big deal. You still have to pay tax and tags in your home state. So that's 10 grand for a bike vs 10,500 in the US. The downside is the exchange rate is 1.47 today. When you take delivery 6 months from now who knows what it will be. Exchange rate is determined on the day you take delivery. Also he has a waiting list and a limited allotment. But I believe that this is a way to get a Red&Black.

At this point I'm not sure what I am doing for a Y2K Bus.

DP/Lyle: Thanks for the info and research on the Canadian bike purchase. I live too far away (California) for it to work for me.

viol8r: I talked to Tim at Wilwert’s and he said the $9,500 didn’t include the tax & lic - but still 1,000 less than my dealer.
