Sounds like a good chance for me to meet some fellow board members, since The Dragon is my backyard.:

Like warbaby said, take it easy first time through, some of the turns are a little misleading, but it is a ride you will never forget.

I went up there last year and can't wait to get back. Just let me know the dates a month or so in advance and I'll see if I can get up there.
The cops weren't too bad last year when I was there. I think there was one coming in, but he stayed down just short of the overlook.

Yes, I AM interested in making the 900 mile, 2 day trip to ride 11 miles on the dragon at 35 mph! ahhahahaa I have some black out days where I'm traveling for work:

As EAKbusa alluded, the "resort" at Deal's Gap is not a Hilton but it's about the only thing actually located at Deal's Gap. It is convenient though. In the pic above, the motel spreads to the left and is an old strip of maybe a dozen small, connected rooms, each with a bath. TV reception sucks. The last time I stayed there in 2000, the rooms were clean but in dire need of modernization. The resort office/gift shop/snack bar/gas station has T-shirts, decals, information, maps, etc. Don't expect world-class cuisine.
busa1300nut made a generous offer for those who might be interested or on a tight budget--THANKS. I will have an enclosed bike trailer and plenty of Busa tools for anyone who needs to do impromptu maintenance or make adjustments.
It is understood that some people listed might have to drop out and some others may join us. This thread is just an effort at organization. Your input and suggestions are welcomed. I will have lodging availability/rates and other logistical info posted soon. If you are the "outdoorsy" type, I think they allow camping on the resort grounds. Personally, I prefer a warm bed and hot shower.
We've got almost two months to refine this into an extraordinary adventure. It is a truly awesome destination!!!

PS - I'll have a digital camera but you might want to bring one too. If anyone has a good camcorder, that would add another dimension to the equation.

Wifey says that I will be ready to get away for a week by then, and I should do something like this before the little one gets here. If there is anyone else from out this way that goes and we hook up and go together, I'll be committed to go then
I have an Expedition and can prob get a trailer to fit a couple of bikes if anyone else wants to go.
Nut, I may have to take you up on that offer to get there. Seems like all the extra money is going to get ready for the new arrival (in late Sep/early Oct)

For the weekend of April 23, 24, & 25, this is the email reply I got from the Deal's Gap Resort today:
Tom,
Our motel has 14 rooms. At the moment, 12 are available. The rooms are $49 per night for one or two people, and $10 for each additional person. If you would like to make a reservation, please call us during the week at 800-889-5550. We do not accept reservations by email.
