Dec 7th 1941 a day that will not live in infamy

I remember when everyone had American flags on every window right after 911. Look around now tell me how many do you see. We live in a band wagon society, and respect for our history starts at home. We celebrate a vague tradition of thanksgiving why cant we stop for a minute and educate our young ones of the value of history.

My hat is off to the “greatest generation” and to all those Pvt Ryans that saved our asses. Imagine if North Korea nearly took over the world and the hell that would be until they were beaten back. I think that would be a modern day equivalent.

Imagine if Germany had taken the UK and Japan had taken and held the Pacific Islands....it took a lot of blood, sweat and tears to oust them out of those islands and if the A bomb wasn't used, the Imperial Japanese army would have been very, very difficult to conquer.

I'd say all those "Audie Murphy's" he was the most decorated American soldier in history.

North Korea never had any opportunities or abilities to take over a world....the Chinese are engaging that concept now.

I fly 4 flags at my home 365 days a year I am proud to be aVietnam Vetren and I welcome home all vetrens.
yet it breaks my heart every day to see this lack of respect in Our country. If you don’t honor our past you have no future !
WAKE UP AMERICA

People have short memories...and not just Americans who I believe are very patriotic.

There are many who would rather forget Viet Nam and now many will be wanting to forget recent conflicts especially Afghanistan which people are already comparing to Viet Nam.

I remember seeing a documentary on the Berlin Wall. They were right on top of it and asked kids nearby what they knew of it. They knew nothing. Everyone wants to forget the tragedy of the past, that which was done to them and to others, they don't teach their children the horrors that came before them. Doomed to repeat history indeed.

German school education does not want to regurgitate the nazi regime to its young

my German uncle ( dead now was in hitler youth aged 12) had a number of historical German war books, they were illegal and he had a false wall on book shelf, you could be arrested for doing Hitler impressions and shouting sieg heil

it is widely taught in UK schools , holocaust etc

Cancel culture is alive and well...it is easier to bury history than try to explain it.

my mother fled Germany in 1946 (AGED 18) to be a nanny for British officer family , never went back

back to thread i'm surprised that 80 years on this is not main news in US

When a nation follows a dictator led socialist regime things happen to the people of that nation.....and generally not good things.

Ironically for the US WWII was quite lucrative in the arms and equipment it sold, Marshal plan and space development with the help of German rocket designers

we finally paid back the loans for US and Canada in 2006
Space development with the German's help...lol.
The U.S didn't have a space program...it captured a German one.
Project Paperclip.
It's guesstimated the U.S got half of Germany's top scientists, while Russia got the rest.
The U.S also got Werner Von Braun, inventor of the V2 Rocket, and a Space Station, among other things.
More interestingly, here's a genious when asked how they came up with these things, his answer is "we had help from people from other worlds".
Strange response when he could have simply taken the credit.
Alot of amazing tech came of of Germany.
Ever seen the single seat, wooden, stealth fighter jet, and yes, it is invisible to radar.
2 were known to exhist and be recovered by the Allied Forces.
One is who knows where...the other...in the Smithsonian...Not on display!
Secrets are better when you don't talk about them.
But, when you realize the tech of 80 years ago, it really makes you think about what's really available today.
