Does this seem legit?

I went down for a little meet and greet last night. It still seems on the up and up, and the seller has a bike stable that makes me jealous. 2010 1098S, a monster, and a sweet wrx in the driveway. Plan is to go to the bank together to settle the lien then transfer of ownership, then import paperwork is on my shoulders. Sweet! Thanks for everyones input, pics as soon as she gets home

sounds like your headed in the right direction then, good luck with the purchase....

I would not give a post dated check as laws vary widely on there disposition. Meaning - post dated checks can be cashed in some states. However the seller is actually taking the bigger risk as you could close the account or just not have the funds available.

Good Luck

Ive brought a few bikes/sleds back from the states before. It seems legit but as someone else says, have your bank- contact the lienholder and pay them directly. Then they can fax you a copy of the ownership. Im not exactly sure of any new rules but when I did it, you needed a "recall clearance letter" from the manufacturer(suzuki) saying that any and all recalls have been done and are up to date. I didnt get charged for it, but some guys have. You also need a bill of sale. Now listen closely---dont have him write you a bill for a much lower price. The border, our side, have been real *******s about this. My brother tried it with a $15000 truck, with a bill for 8grand, and they basically held him for 3 hrs threatened tp impound the truck, trailer , and new truck. Then they surfed the internet and actually found the guys old ad for the pickup advertising it at $15000 ! Needless to say, after $1000 bucks in fines and taxes, fees on the full 15000- it did not pay to try and save a couple bucks. Just a warning. Then theres also a $230 RIV fee which covers the cost of the paperwork and the provincial inspection. PM me for more info.

Its easy to do, you just gotta have all your stuff in order beforehand.

Good luck.

I remember in Delaware (the state I live in) a while ago you only paid taxes on the amount you paid for the bike/automobile, and people would go in there with a bill of sale for $1.00. Now you pay on whatever is the most, trade in value or sale price.

So the deal went through just fine. $7500 for a 2009 gunmetal/silver busa with 2k miles on it, full yosh r77 and PC5. All the paperwork was in order, and the rider only purchased the bike in May 2010. It'll end up being 4 trips down by the time the bike is in my garage but well worth it. Sunday was for a meet and greet, Tuesday I brought cashiers check down, went back wednesday because cashiers check was held for 24 hrs before lien could be released, then Monday to clear customs. She comes home Monday after US customs has their 72 hours for paperwork

2 years ago I had the money but not enough experiece for a bike like this, last year maybe enough experience but definitely not enough money. Cards are falling into place this time around :beerchug: Pics ASAP

Good for you Posser ! I hope that link I sent ya helped out a bit. Now, as long as everything goes smooth at the border on your way home Monday, your golden !

That's what they do where I live. So...everyone lies about how much they paid for their vehicle.
