Drilled by the Mechanic

I suspect your chain is worn or stretched so the rollers don't fit properly in the valley of the sprocket? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause a tooth to fail prematurely?

We are sponsored by Vortex and our cost is very low so I run Vortex on everything including our race bikes. I couldn't even guess how many we have been through over the past few years but quite a number and I have never seen a broken tooth except for the one I ran for 13K miles on a street bike.

If anyone would have problems with sprocket failure I'd think it would be the big HP drag bikes? And I've not heard any scuttle butt from those guys?

Do you have any photos of your sprocket with broken teeth?

Yeah, but as you can see the pictures aren't very good.

"Drilled by the mechanic???"

Man, I thought this thread was about something completely different.. glad he was only interested in your "big sprocket..."

Alan just get a SuperSprox sprocket and be done with it.
Don't know why anyone would use a sprocket that's gonna wear out like that?

Just get a steel factory sprocket, our sponsors sell them and they will take all kinds of abuse. Aluminum is NOT worth it. Steel is cool!:cheerleader:

what's better, WAX or DUPONT TEFLON SPRAY.
I use maxima racing wax and notice over time I get a pretty good build-up of wax on top of the under belly fairing that I have to clean every soo often, its like its rock-hard build-up.

TEFLON!!! Chain wax SUCKS!!!!

Tuff, that sprocket had approx 7500 miles on it. I do ride hard with lots of mountain passes to and from work...so I do alot of acclerating. But no track days on this sprocket. Hard to say how many miles were lost on it due to poor maintenance of cleaning and lubing the chain..

Rollin, thanks for the link. I think the busa uses a 530 versus the smaller pitch 520 for the liter bike series. As to your comments about lack of knowledge..fair comments friend. I have been working unbelievable hours at the hospital since the move in January and riding the bike almost any day that it isn't raining. Just one of those things that got away from me...60 hour work weeks, moving, honey do lists related to the move...and 60 yrs old and energy and brains leaking out everywhere:poke:...learned my lessons...so, i will call your link and check it out...thanks Rollin

Heartbreaker, you are breaking my poor little heart. i could never take advantage of such a sweet guy:laugh:

Saiid, funny you mentioned Supersprox. Have one sitting in a box in the garage. The BST sprocket holder is a 5 holer...but they do not align with the Supersprox that I bought from Pashnit...Tim just didn't know the BST product requires a different sprocket. Sprockets aren't that expensive nor or they hard to change out...but I will endeavor to locate a steel sprocket. Put on a D.I.D. racing chain and new front sprocket.
