chalk it up and next time look at the shipping as well. He's probably not going to come down on the shipping cause it was there for you to look at before you bid

thats peoples gimmick on ebay anymore i fugging hate that place. everyone sells something cheap then charges 50 bucks to send it to you.

Ebay has a feature where you can sort by lowest price + shipping. That is my default filter. Wont save you from the stupid ****ing ******* ****ing sheep **** sucking mother ****ers who insist on bidding up used ATI 4870 Video Card to within $10 shy of a new one!!

alot of times shipping is inflated on items. Some more than others.

It is higher then the cost of actually shipping stuff because, unless it is a store, the person also has to box it, take it to the post office, and ship it.

I have learned to always check if they take Paypal and what the shipping is.

There are deals on Ebay that ask for $ .99 for the item and $45.00 to ship when it actually cost $5.00 shipping. Yeah, you'll take the hit this time...and most of the time it still equals out to be a decent deal, but there is also a report item link on the auction with an option to choose excessive shipping~!~

The seller does this to avoid Ebay fees (which is against the Ebay rules)...the % is not taken out of the shipping cost and they get a little more money out of the final cut~!~

well, if the shipping was listed in the description then it really is your fault. just about every company on ebay jacks you on shipping...its how they make it look like your getting a deal when you'r actually paying retail....its an expected thing on ebay and its why you should always read the description carefully before bidding. That being said...I would still point it out to the seller. You might get lucky and he might work with you.???

What I gather is you're asking for people's opinion on the ethics of it.

Is it ethical? No, it's not for 2 reasons, one - it only costs x $ to ship and include in that a couple dollars for handling/packaging costs, second, as stated above it's skirting E-bays final value fees which seem to get higher every year. I first bought off Ebay back in 1997 when there really wasn't that much. Things were a lot more fair back then, but now Ebay has become so huge they suck money from every angle. Listing fees, final value fees, and lets not forget Paypal fees which they own too! Want to talk about ethics, they're essentially triple dipping some people. Sellers pay a listing fee, final value fee, then a Paypal fee to accept payment. But Amazon is even worse - try selling something there and you're gonna lose almost 20% off the top!

Suck it up and drive on. You pay for everything that is detailed on the ad, if you don't read it all then shame on you.

Ebay doesn't charge fees on the shipping so that is why they put their profit there instead of in the auction.I purchased item like that one time and was right around the corner from the guy and figured I would just pick it up,he wouldn't let me..

funny you say that...I tryed the same thing. Guy wanted to charge me $40 shipping and lived 10 miles away. He DID NOT state anything about "no pickup" in his auction listing so when I contacted him and told him I wanted to pick it up(a cold air intake for my honda), he refused. I refused to pay, he filed a complaint with ebay and I won the mediation. He had a perfect feedback score and didnt want to ruin it so he ended up letting me pick it up to keep me from leaving negative feedback. I got that intake for 99cents. He was friggen pissed when I showed up...told me to never bid on any of his items again.

unfortunately I would man up and pay. I don't agree with it but it's reality. I don't do much on e-bay anymore because of these tactics. You want a certain amount set your price and stop trying to hide the profit in your shipping. But that's just me live and learn man sorry.
