EVERYONE PLEASE READ

Okay this pisses me off thinking about it as I type it but I want to warn everyone about something new I heard about. Appearanlty a guy I ride with told me something very disturbing this morning. In some places people are getting aggrevated with sportbikers hotrodding their motorcycles to the point where they are taking matters in to their own hands and in a round about way attacking us. In places you would least expect I.E. a country backroad where there is never traffic or a stretch of twisties everyone likes to hit this is where they are doing it. In an area where they know bikes frequent they are sneaking out and pouring unused motor oil in the road in a thick coat. From a distance it will just look like a wetspot in the road but you all know that at a high speed and you are leaning to enter the turn that slick crap will have a serious consequence. It has been happening a couple times up here already this year and my friend witnessed one personally. The cops came to the scene and have said they have 6 cases of this already this year and if they can find the person doing it they are going to pursue attempted murder charges. I mean I know people have always had an attitude with our crowd anyways but never to the point of sinking to something like this. I mean that is the equivalant of laying down spike strips. I just wanted to share this with you all as a safety precaution. I would hate to see someone unexpecting go down at the hands of some PR!CK doing this crap. Heads up guys and ride safe.

Wow , that is pretty evil. I cannot imagine an adult would do something like that.

You know I have to agree. I am not a go out looking to kick someones ass kinda guy but if I caught someone doing this I think I would beat them to the edge of death. This is just beyond sick.

Just be cool, someone will brag about it and then it will be open season as far as I'm concerned!

Absolutely dirty. I'm not the one to throw blows, but I would open up a can whoop a$$ if I saw someone do it!!!!

URBAN LEGEND, Folks.... Yeah there is prolly a tiny little nugget of truth in there, and it prolly happened at some point. But there are hardly legions of fugwits out there pouring oil on the road.

It's just like the story about the piano wire strong across the road... Just one of those silly assed stories...

Sucks that people would even think about doing something like that. One case is too many, but if it becomes an epidemic there would definitely be hell to pay and I'm sure the cops would do what was necessary.

Um so a little oil puts you guys in the fields? Come to Pa, the oil and chip leader of the world and you'll never ride again. You guys should probably consider scouting your "hotrod" areas a bit before take off on them.

Little rant here,

Ya know, guys complain about stones (or oil) and crap like that on roads. If you scout your areas and choose "safe" areas to "hotrod" in, then maybe this can be avoided. I chose to ride alone. I expect no one to be responsible for my actions but myself. I personally choose only straight line venues for "hotrodding". Why? Because I can see and react to possible dangers without (hopefully) worries of a panic stop situation. You can't do that in a knee dragger situation (most likely). I know of ONE knee dragger group here who uses a lead scout and a tail scout both with chatterboxes. Lead scout is there to ensure a clear path. Tail scout is there to ensure no dangers from the rear (cops, speeding cars etc) he is also the first to respond to a potential crash possibilty. They ride as a group and take responsibilty as a group.

"Appearanlty a guy I ride with told me something very disturbing this..."

That's not "disturbing"...you want "disturbing"?...try over-scheduled soccer moms in minivans who got the "Unlimited Plan" on their cell phones...now THAT'S "disturbing".

I second that......

If someone did that, it would take out cars as well, even if they only hit it on one side of the car. On a tight turn at a high rate of speed and then to have your coeficient friction cut in half, well, that would be bad berries for anyone.

Urban legend....

Although this would be bad, I don't support it as an epidemic!

When you ride, YOU are responsible to check that the roads are safe and in good condition BEFORE you start pushing the limits! YOU are the person that MUST verify the safety level for those around you that you may affect! YOU are responsible for YOUR OWN safety! Nobody else, just YOU!

Would it have a different effect on the rider if they came around a blind corner too fast, and there was debri in the road? It doesn't matter who put the debri there, or why it's there. The rider should be checking the road for any issues prior to playing on the roads PERIOD!

Ride Safe!

Thats extremely disturbing if its true, I tend to believe urban legend. Cagers may be a$$es, but to go all out like that would require intelligence and I am thinking they are lacking in the extreme in that department...

I haven't personally seen the oil slick before but I have seen where fresh cut grass was put just past the apex of a blind turn that USED to have a lot of sport bikes on it every weekend. Cars generally didn't have too much of a problem with it but bikes did. It was out in the middle of nowhere with the nearest house about 3 miles away so we were never able to figure out who it was that was doing it. Cheap bastids need to be strung up by 1 n*t and left to die as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry guys, not an urban legend this time. I saw the stuff first hand at the Gap.

While stationed in Germany we were riding on a couple backroads and encountered a slick spot on a relatively high speed area but did not put much thought into it. A few days later there was a news crew filming as we went by so the German guy I rode with stopped and asked what happened. Turns out that one of the local people got tired of the bikes tearing up and down the road. In his infinite wisdom he came up with the idea of throwing sand in the corners to try and slow them down. Well as it turned out a biker went into the corner and slid pretty quickly hitting a tree and getting killed. After the story was put out it only took a couple days and a passerby contacted the Polizie and reported a gentleman throwing something in the road. After further investigation they arrested an older gentleman and caught him with the sand in his car. He lived miles away from the accident and made a point of driving to where the bikes went and throwing this sand down. He was charged with murder and as far as I know is still in prison. It was not an urban legend... A couple scary weeks of cruising the back roads.
