exhaust and pair valve

not necessarily....you could make your own block off plates if you want.... I ordered mine cuz I liked the look of the bde ones... its ultimately your decision

You need to block them off some how and remove the PAIR assembly. I simply welded the stock plates shut after cutting off the steel PAIR tubes. Works fine and was free, but I wish I had just gotten a nice block-off kit like BDE. Just did not have the patience to wait and reasembled the bike with the rigged ones. Works fine and no one knows (oops, everyone knows now).

The BDE kit is overkill since nobody ever sees 'em except in my photos but it's really trick. I'd buy the BDE kit again if I had it to do over. I like wasting money on trick pieces like that.

Here's a couple pics of my BDE kit installed.

Are these PAIR 'ports' to 'equalize' the exhausts or sumtin' ??

and why don't/shouldn't you use 'em with a pattern zorst ??

(have similar things on later Ford HCS engines over here...
three little "U" shaped pipes ?? or is that something completely
different

XXX-Large,

The PAIR valve is part of the emissions system. It introduces fresh air into the exhaust. Which is all fine until an aftermarket full system is used in place of the stock headers.

Then that fresh air can cause some serious backfiring as unburnt fuel is ingited in the headers. Very bad. So removing the PAIR is a needed step in installing a full exhaust system.

...and where exactly would one find this BDE Kit should one be in need of such... if I may ask?

You can order from Tom (Warbaby) at www.veltune.com or give him a call at 1-866-826-1534. Tom is very good to deal with. Great pricing and fast shipping with tracking numbers.
Or from brockracing.com.. I've ordered from Veltune and was very satisifed... they were something like $48 or thereabouts if memory serves me correctly... which it doesn't always!

I agree with BT.. they look trick and they're really not all that much $. You want to do it right, right??

I just ordered the kit off Tom at Veltune... Can't wait for it to arrive

As a side note: I asked him to ship via USPS instead of FedEx/UPS to avoid the ridiculous Brokers fees ($32?) when stuff comes over the border from US to CAN.

Now I've posted this question before, but with not much valuable info in the way of responses. Anyway, I was wondering how would the removal of the pair valve effect the Busa with aftermarket slip-ons?

I do understand the general purpose of the pair valve, but what would be it's effects on a bike with just slip-ons? Inquiring minds want to know. I'm sure Johnnycheese can shed some light on this subject. I've always been curious and it's basically just for shits and grins. My guess would be that it should really do nothing to a bike with a bolt-on exhaust. Of course I could and might very well be wrong. Just have to wait and see what results we get.

I'm curious about the answer to bacharles question as well. *bump*

all the pair does is pump air into the exhaust does nothing to gain or lose HP junk it and get rid of 2.5 lbs that the busa does not need

it does make the bike pass regulations in those crappy states that require it... glad I live in a rural state

VERY interested in this thread...AZ has frikkin' emissions for bikes. Will it still pass w/ PAIR off? I hate the idea of pourin' half burnt air back into her...and anything that helps slim her down (as long as it doesn't involve me cuttin' back on brewski's

).
