Extended Warranty???

I got a 3 yr extended warranty right thru the dealer for (recalling) $400. If possible get it thru your dealer, not some second party.

Anyhow, I was not attempting to steer anyone toward warrantydirect when mentioning them before/now. I chose them and am satisfied at this time with info I have researched, cost for product, etc.

FYI.........
Coverage is provided for "seals and gaskets". The "cluth assembly and cable" is not covered.
............
What was sold to me is a "Service Contract", which is not a warranty. The manufacturer can only warrant their product.

The "Service Dept Guidelines for Claims Handling" are clear cut. I will see how that continues when I actually utilize/experience the guidelines.

I am interested in any information of a dealer in Atlanta area selling an extended warranty for a reasonable price. I will not pay nearly double for a warranty just 12 months later........But I just realized changing to a potentially less expensive factory extended warranty is a moot issue for me now, as I have passed the 12 month period for the original factory.

ps. what about the dealers requiring physical inspection of a bike if not purchased from that dealer/out of state before extending a warranty? I heard that somewhere.

More info from WarrantyDirect.com. Yes, I'm considering them. Bay Area shops are trying to rip me for $600.

My questions are below his response.
===========================================

Dear Mr. CuriousMike;

I thank you for your continued interest in Warranty Direct. I'd respond to
your questions as follows:

1) We pay for all parts, labor, fluids (where necessary), and sales tax on
repairs (where applicable).

2) The "waiting period" really depends on your shop. We handle claims over
the phone, unless the shop indicates they believe there is a reason to
suspect that maintenance has not been performed on the motorcycle. They will
speak with one of our 62 claims people as soon as they call, and the process
begins immediately. Also, if the tear down shows a covered component is the
problem, we pay for the tear down, too.

3) Warranty Direct normally pays all claims with a corporate charge card.
I'm certain you've done your homework, and visited the SEC reports on our
parent company, Interstate National Dealer Services (ISTN is the trading
symbol). You've therefore seen we have in excess of $50 million in the bank.
Why wouldn't you repair facility take our charge card, but instead take
yours (unless you have MORE than $50 million in the bank! LOL).

I'd be more than happy to answer any other questions you might have. Please
either call or e-mail me with them.

My own opinion, if I were you I'd get the extended warranty. With me wondering if the chain tensioner noise will become a problem and knowning that one person had his starter go out before warranty ran out "starter cost close to the price of a three year warranty". In my area the average price for three years goes for $500 plus,valley price. $1,200 that some one posted is way to much.

I went to my dealer yesterday after work and was quoted $595 for 4 more years. That was the "deluxe" extended warranty. It works out to $12.40 a month. I think I will stay with my dealer, seals are covered, rental car, the works... I appreciate everyone who has given information and will most likely gamble with my dealer. They will, I'm sure, gamble with me to the tune of $595. Thanks again all. See ya.

CuriousMike,

Frank was the person I communicated with regarding my documentation.

Question. Does the factory extended warranty cover the "clutch assembly and cable"? If not, what is the difference in the two coverages, other than price?
