I bought a new busa(03)in late Oct.and have had problems with this false neutral between 5th and 6th.I didn't even make it home from the dealers and was having problems, made it half way home and took it back. They made a small adjustment on the shifter and told me to try that.Well as you may have guessed that didn't work.I was not happy in the least and I let them know. They told me to get the 1000km and have the oil changed and that may fix the problem.Well I got my 1000km on the bike still had the problem and made them pick it up.Suzuki Canada informed me that they have never had any problem like this with any of there other Hayabusa's(ya right). Well I got the bike back, oil changed a new part to do with the shifting and tested. With the nice weather we have had over the last couple of days I was able to take my bike out and try it and guess what the F**KING still doesn't work right. This is starting to piss me off big time,a new bike and problems from the start. What I would like from you guy's is to know how many of you out there have had the same problem?what year of bike you have?do you still have the problem?I would like this info to have for Suzuki Canada(as they said they have never heard of this problem before me)I don't even like going out for a drive anymore because of this ,how sad is that,I've driven Suzuki's most of my life(first new bike)but now I want somethin else.

Hey Bug,I have a 03 and had the same problem when it was new. It didnt happen all the time but it happened enough. It cleared up after about 1,000mi. There usually are some quirks that come with having a new bike. Another thing to look at are your shoes. If I ride w/ sneakers I have a gear missing problem. Try taking note off your foot position when shifting, are you raising the shifter w/ the middle of your foot or the more towards your toes. Anyway good luck

My 02 did it or I should say does it.The more miles you put on it the less it will do it.I am not sure if its learning about this bike or it really is better.
Two things that I got from other people on this page about this.Dont shift it like a p***y shift it like you mean it and you dont have to use 6th gear until higher speeds.
Calm down its a great bike to ride and there are some thing you will get used to.

very common.... you may have to adj. the toe shifter a little bit more... like every one has said with time this gos away.

( just give your self time to learn the bike )

Always run with Synthetic oil and wear proper boots w/a shift plate on them to get a more positive shift. You'll probably never notice again.

03 here. same prob. it went away or I got harsher on my shifting.

I shift a little harder than I have on other bikes. My '03 had the same thing and after practicing shifting more firmly I don't have that problem anymore.

EVERY HAYABUSA, ON EVERY UBB YOU GO ON WILL TELL YOU THE SAME, THEY ALL, FROM 1999-PRESENT, HAVE EXPERIENCED FALSE NEUTRALS.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

'03, happened only once at around 1600 miles, now use Amsoil (plus have 2600 miles now) - has not happened since.

MINE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM , I JUST RAISED THE FOOT LEVER SO I COULD GET A MORE POSITIVE SHIFT .

I've had two 03's and both of them did that when I first got them. After you get around 1000 miles it seems to go away.

I have had 2 '03's the first one I wrecked had about 4,000 miles on it the second one has about 2,500. Between both bikes it's only ever happened about 5 or 6 times. Each time it's happened it was because I was lazy about the shift. The shifts get better after about 1,000 miles, much smoother and easier. Synthetic oil is not recommended till after 3,000 miles, the rings and valves need time to fully seat in.

I adjusted my shifter lower and the problem went away. I wasn't getting the "full pull" on the shifter.

My 03 did the same thing. My toe was getting sore from pulling so hard. Problem went away after about 1500 kms.

Don't Pussy foot the shifter around and after your first service the 5-6 Falsie will all but vanish. Key to using the Busa tranny effectively is treat it firmly. After a couple thousand miles I can heartily recommend a quality full synthetic, it has made a huge difference in the feel and smoothness of my tranny.
