I had the same problem when I first got the bike, then I learned that it was because I was shifting into 6th gear prematurely.  6th gear is hard to get into if you are running under 4500 RPMs in 5th...  lesson learned: wait for it

On my '05 LE, I experienced false neutrals between 5-6 almost regularly until it hit about 900 miles. Since then ... pretty much smooth as butter. If not for the great info on this site

(which I read diligently before buying the bike), I'd have taken the thing back and demanded they return my money.

I had to adjust my shift lever down about an inch, seem to help. Nothing more aggravating then bouncing the limiter at about 150....happens more then I would like to admit. Trick is to shift it hard.

I've never had a "false" neutral. At first I would shift to 6th, let out the clutch, and find I was still in 5th. After adjusting the shifter down about an inch, it's smooth as butter. Just lucky I guess.
