Finally, some good news....maybe.

I got a call from the dealership today. They say that only the tensioner failed but did no damage to the engine. They have already replaced the tensioner and say that it starts right up.
They never pulled the head. How can they tell that no contact was made between valves and pistons? I imagine it would be obvious.

Maybe some good news for once.

I still gotta deal with the bent exhaust tube and the dinged radiator though.

Would highly suggest that you wisen up my friend,That clack clack clack sound that you heard wasnt the Tensioner. How do they know that one of your valve guides arent cracked? How do they know you dont have a bent exhaust valve? If you had a cam Chain tensioner failure then they should AUTOMATICALLY REMOVE THE HEAD TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE!!!!Ask them to put it in writing that no other damage was done, explain to them that as soon as you get your bike back that you are going to take it to another dealer to have it inspected or you can possibly ride around with one of your cylinders leaking all over the place from a valve that's not seating correctly. It's your bike,do what you want.

I would think a simple compression test would tell something. A leak down test a little more. Even a backyard mechanic should be able to do either test if valve damage is a possibility, so I would assume dealer did one or both. Ask him. Even a part as small as a cam tensioner can sound like a sledge hammer inside an aluminum block. Do not tear a good running motor apart on a fishing trip. Just my .02 for what thats worth! Jack

I agree. But I would start with a compression and leakdown test, before start digging into the engine. The easy stuff first. If you get good numbers, you may not need to take the engine apart.

Lofty:

Broward Motorsports, Ft. Luaderdale, totally screwed up my bike, just now getting it straightened out!

Can't say much about others, but stay away from broward-Ft-La.

Lofty,
I been quietly reading most of your threads ref. "The Cam Tensioner Deal" I also purchased my "00 Blue Busa" from Dennis at Broward Motorsports. If you don't mind me asking. I'm very curious as to how "Lee" the Service Manager has handled your overall problem(s). And/or, if the Dealership showed a genuine concern,or if they are just blowing smoke?

I did not buy my bike from Motorsports, I got a better deal at Powersports. I did take the bike in to Motorsports fro warranty work on a recomendation.
I hate flaming someone or a business that can't defend themselves but their errors were bullsh*t problems that didnt have to happen.
They weren't in possesion of my bike more than 5 minutes and they put a nice big dent in my header tube. They had one of their $6.00 an hour prep guys pull the tube and he dinged the hell out of my radiator.
I get a call to come get the bike this morning, In get there, my exhaust is laying on the ground in the middle of the shop, my front fender has a nice new scratch on it and the bike is filthy with dirt and water spots from when they left the bike in the rain the past three days.

I'm seeing red right now.

They have proven to be the most incompetent bunch of toad sucking morons I have ever dealt with. And I told them so.

Im pulling my bike out of there today and I'm calling my lawyer.

Absolute idiots.

Just some advise, DO NOT take your bike there for service.

I will take my bike to Blais cycle and pay for warranty work before those jerks ever see it again.

Why is it that some shops do not take pride in their work? I went to pick my bike up and it was rotten filthy dirty from sitting in the rain too. Not to mention a fastener was loose. I complained and they just look at you silently. Were it my business I would be kissing butt, apologizing vigorously and doing my best Al Gore Amway salesman impression. Leave a slow lousy R1 outside in the rain, not my bike!
Lee

Lofty,
Thanks for that advice, You just answered all of my questions. I got a decent deal on the bike back in March when I bought it.($10,900 o.t.d.) The Dealer was highly recommended to me, that's why I also went there. I won't be taking the bike back there for any more Service. BTW, sorry to hear the royal **** job they did on you! They just lost my Business.
