I don't blow my own horn often, but have to this time. Firefighters used the camera I designed to rescue a 96 year old woman trapped in a burning house.

Here is the press release:

Hell yeah! Makes you feel good, huh? Even though you weren't there when she was found, you played a critical part in her survival. That's great! Sure wish we could afford those cameras. They come in handy for law enforcement, too.

What the press release doesn't tell is that the fireman entered the house first without the camera. After he tripped and fell over furniture twice, he came out and got the camera. 30 seconds later, he located the victim.

Pretty cool!

What model of camera is this? These things work amazingly well especially in gray scale mode to see through the smoke. Some of the new SCBA units have a thermal imager built right into your face mask, how cool is that!

This is the FireFLIR camera. We formerly private labeled it as the Scott Eagle Imager II.

BTW, nobody has a camera built into an SCBA facepiece yet. My old company, MSA has been showing some prototypes around, but it will be a while before something like that was available. If you have seen a prototype, I would love to get your impressions.
