First bike suggestion...

so after looking at ebay, i think i will go with an SV650.... of course, it will be a while before i get a bike, but i like the way the sv looks with a bottom fairing. i didnt like the way it looked without a fairing, but yeah. thanks for the help on picking a first bike everyone.

Another good Idea is to ride with experience people. Or take a motorcycle safety class.

First bike...these points are important:

* Technical support / Warranty
* Reliability

I highly recommend the SV-650 above all else as a good first bike. Get it with a good solid warranty and you will be set.

don't get the R something on it...600 or 750 plain cheap bike will get you started, and before you buy it, always check with ins. first...my 02 cent, and welcome aboard...

yea i would say go with an older 600 of some sort such as like early 80s ninja or something
