First maintenance...

Turbo-Torch is right....I called Suzuki myself and had them explain in detail what is and isn't covered under warranty.....anything that fails do to a defect and NOT wear and tear or abuse (which is the tricky part) is covered. And you can do ALL your own maintainence (including the first service) as long as you document it and keep ALL receipts. Of course if you do all your own stuff be SURE you do it right cuase' they will pick you to pieces TRYING to get out of any spendy warranty work. And a fair amount of whats your fault and not will prolly be judged by the dealership people......so if you aint comfy in your wrenching skillls have the scratch and denters do it

I want to be present when they do the service #2.

When I went for service 1 and then noticed a rattling sound they next day, I brought her back saying it's coming from somewhere under the engine/under the gas tank. The tech said, hmmm I didn't touch the gas tank, leeme take a look. I said, well how to you check the chassis and adjust idle without touching the gas tank? No reply. I have a feeling it's a 200 dollar oil change. Next time I will watch.

I recommend trying to get comfy with doing most of your own work. I have a friend that loves working on his bikes. Me, even tho I've had some training and am a pretty good wrench don't really enjoy it too much.....but I KNOW that when I do something on my bike I have COMPLETE peace of mind riding it cuase' I know that it was done right.....no nasty suprises, loose parts or damage. And when your life's riding on 2 very fast wheels peace of mind is a good thing

Valid points all...bottom line...that maintenance thing is tricky...just like getting work on your car, your house etc.
There are those who are reputable and do a good job and
there are those who are just not trustworthy...the tough part is figuring out the former from the latter. I tend to rely on word of mouth and check with Better Business to see if any complaints are on file. $300-$500 is way out of line for the first service...
Ride safe...
