The verdict of the tire going flat was, the valve stem failed. it seemed to have started to come apart at the base of the stem. the inside of the tire on the side wall was very quickly starting to fall apart inside the tire as well probably from being flat and rolling down the road still. when i pulled it off the tire it looked like there was a soft ball size pile of ground rubber inside the tire from the side walls.
