First ride on the Avons and Tobin

Yup you gotta almost ride in a paranoid state on some new tires, I had a new Dunlop Qualifier on the rear step out just like yours, put the new tire on the rear and didn't ride the bike for a couple weeks then when the weather broke I took the bike out to warm up the engine to do an oil change, forgot about the new tire momentarily while turning to the right and very slight acceleration the whole ass end shot totally sideways, scared the piss out of me.

oh ya ditto on the Tobin.

The BT-021 is a great tire overall. I have had it on two of my bikes. Very capable in the corner for an ST tire. Mileage has varied between 6-9K for front and rear on my FJR. The FJR doesn't have near as much torque, but it is 130lbs heavier.

You may want to run the Storm a few pounds low for the first hundred miles. That will help it heat up faster. Don't forget to put air back in it after that or your tire mileage will suffer. You should be able to get 8-10k if you don't do a bunch of burn-outs. Burn-outs and not checking tire pressure are two of the reasons I've seen that people only get 2500 from a stock tire.

These Tobin seats look nice, and I've read a lot of positive reviews about them, but I'm curious...

How do you guys tuck behind the fairing with a Tobin seat? I'm 6'2, and for me to get into anything even marginally resembling a tuck I have to slide my butt all the way back against the hump. It seems the Tobin wouldn't allow that with any degree of comfort.

Thanks for the input guys. I plan to be careful with them.

Thank you for the clarification Dennis.

Sorry that was your first impression of the Avons. You will like them once you get a few miles on them.

with the tobin you cant slide back...but your butt sits lower and the rear of your butt is lower than your crotchal area...if that makes sense.. so it does work..just...different.

Glad to hear about your latest goodies, but not so glad to hear about your scare with the storms. Hopefully, they will provide you with much more confidence once you get some miles on them. I've always been extra careful on new tires, and never had any "step out" on me; which only makes me wonder if something in your suspension setup may be contributing to this? :dunno:

Anyways, best of luck and keep us posted. :beerchug:

My suspension has never been tuned, the reason I spun out is because I was in a lean on the side of the tire that hadnt seen the road yet. Combined with just a little throttle is all it took.

Maybe we need to work on that at Eureka Springs.
