First service

How many had to go back to the dealer for your first service to maintain your warranty? How many dealers let you do your own first service? I asked my dealer if I could do my own, their tech's say fine, but need to get the ok from the owner to maintain warranty.

Right. If the dealer doesn't honor warranty then take it elsewhere, for the fun of it call Suzuki and register a complaint. Dealers are jokes!

I just keep a log of dates and mileage when I do the service.

I made a copy of the maintenance schedule page of the shop manual and use that as a checklist and date each one.

I let them rip me off for the first service but I will do most other service myself. I keep a little notebook in all my vehicles documenting what work has been done. Keep all receipts too.

Make sure the TPS is set and throttles balanced either by you or the dealer. They come from the factory way off. Rarely is it set correctly at initial setup. In my opinion, many of the performance complaints we hear on this forum are related to incorrect TPS or throttle balance.

It is a magnificent set of wheels isn't it.

ok Hooshy Bushy I am not a joke.
Don't lump me into all DEALERS.
This is what we tell our costumers about all services.:
All sercives should be followed by the owners manual and done by a qualified Tech. or you can do it your self just please keep your receipts and dates and mileage.
We would prefer you come back to us but you are the customer so you decide.
Also we have an open shop policy so you can watch me or any other tech work on your bike and ask questions.

warranty paperwork states owner can do maintenace as long as you keep receipts for things like oil,filter,plugs.....

Thanks Lyle
Yes, a great bike for sure! I'm leaning towards going back to the dealer after your comment.

If you TRUST the TECH and feel that tech does good work yes go back to the dealer if you are not that trusting or feel the tech is not that good do it your self and document the oil and filter purchase and the mileage.
As for TPS if you have a CA bike yes it should be done along with throttle body sink if not it is not nessacery.

JC,

I trust that the tech really wants to ride my bike. As far as changing oil goes, too late I just did it. I'll doc every thing and if they want to play around I'll even go back and have them change it again monday. But I want to ride today and, well like I said, too late.

I don't think it's a CA. bike. How can you be sure?

Maui... The first service is much more than an oil change. They grease the hand levers, grease the shifter lever, TPS, T Sync, check the brake mounting bolts, fluid levels, etc.

Most definitely get a shop manual and at least skim it. You'll learn a lot about the bike from it. It lists ALL the tasks at each service.

Put on the Dealer service order that you will do all test rides. That keeps the dealers kids off the bike. (Cisco's idea). It worked for me.

Cheeseman is absolutely right about finding a dealer you can trust. The problem is it's a lot like the Greek mythology character Diogonese (sp?) wandering the world to find someone to trust to hold his lantern. In 35 years of driving cages I have found only two car mechanics worthy.

I doubt you have a CA bike.I think you are not even related to US Suzuki I would have to check.I know the cars aren't.
E-mail me if you want a list or want me to send you anything

Johnnycheese;
It would be nice if every shop had the same policy as yours. I always figured if a dealer would not let you in their shop they must be hiding something! The local Honda & Yamaha shop has an open policy and the mechanics there will gladly help you if you are doing your own work and run into a problem. Super bunch of guys. I just wish the Suzuki dealers (in this area) were so nice! Maybe after I get to know them a little better? This is my first new Suzuki.

Should I go back to the dealer or not? I really couldn't tell buy your response too bushy. Does the TPS need adjusting if the bike is running fine? I already went through and found loose bolts/tightened them. Air filter/ok.

Slowhand (phantom?) I rode the GTS Friday. Now I know why I was getting so tired on it. The busa is about five times the machine in handling, braking, and power. It runs way better on crater road. The altitude doesn't seem to bother it very much at all unlike the GTS.

Maui I did all my own service on my bike and will start doing the TP adjustment and body sync also.Just keep all your recipts on the oil you buy,oil filter, crush washer and document it in a service/trip log book.I have one of those trip/gas booklets that I put down my oil change, gas stop fill ups, chain lube and any other thing that I have done to the bike is written in this log book.I also keep a file on the bike and store any information that I get off the web and recipts from purchase that I have done to repair my bike in a folder. This folder is handed to the new owner when I sell the bike.
