first year maintenance

hey all, i'm new to this site and am looking into a busa instead of my 749 (just want something new as usual). i can't seem to find the search button for this board, so forgive me if its something that's been asked a billion times before. whats the average maintenance cost of owning a busa in the first year? i'm sure those of you familiar with ducatis know we pay out the arse for valve adjustments and parts, so i'm lookin for a small comparo.

since i'm 99.995% sure its been answered somewhere else, maybe a handy link is all i'm looking for. thanks!

How much do you ride? First scheduled maintenance is after break-in at 600 miles. Changing the oil is probably all that you will have to worry about it unless you do heavy performance mods. Welcome to the board!

say i got one used, with less than 600 miles on it. thats sounds improbable, but thats what happened with my monster, or the first checkup wasn't included in the price. how much would that first checkup be at a dealer? i ride about 5000 miles a year.

I think I was told one time around 100-200. I did my own first service since it was running what seems to be perfect. Other then oil changes, chain lube, and tires, depending how hard you ride, you shouldn't need anything else. Plugs at 7500 miles.

Hey, the search button gets nixxed as a pop-up by my firewall. Try turning off your firewall and refreshing the page.

For 5000 miles in the first year on a new Busa, 1st service is about $150, a set of tires at about 2500-4000 miles depending on how agressive you ride, a second oil change at 3000 if you do it yourself $50. You should be able to do all of that for about $500

Spark plugs every 7500 miles, valves every 15000, oil and filter every 3000, tires every 3000 or so depends on how hard you ride.

what happens if you dont change the spark plugs

hehe, wow, $500? thats what my tires cost me for the duc. 600 mile service was 3-400 dollars, and 6k was around the same. looks like i'll be SAVING money by getting a busa

now if only i could find insurance for less than 4000 a year. . .

but thanks for the information guys. and krieg, i post from work most often, and their super firewall can't be shut down by regular users. guess i better get used to diving for this information in the back pages.

As far as insurance, check with State Farm if available! Cheapest around for the Busa! I only pay 400 per year, full coverage, with a 250 deductible.

400 a year?....the cheapest for my state with no record was $5500. and i am 31. damn my state sucks.

i've got a little ducati monster..

if your paying $500 for tires it's your own fault...

you can buy a set of pirelli diablo's for the 'busa.. bigger rear tire for less than $250 mounted and balanced..

jap bikes don't require anywhere near the same amount of maintenance the duc's do..

no desmo valve system on the 'busa... ya don't hafta mess with it.. good ole springs pushin 'em back up. Just ride the thing and replace the tires, brakes, and oil.

Duc's are nice.. but riduculousy maintanence happy..

Other than 2 oil changes, 2 rear tires, and 1 front you probably won't do anything in the first 6,000 miles. Well assuming you don't really punish the tires anyway.

Also.. if you wanna keep that Duc and not waste your savings on valve adjustments instead of what it should be used for.. MODS... you need to learn to do your own valve adjustments.

mines pretty easy .. well not easy.. but for $400 i can handle a little aggravation. It's just a 2 valver though.. 1/2 the work of the 4 valvers obviously..

check some ducati sites for good info on doing your own valves... ducatisuite.com has some good info on it... it's for monsters.. but basically the same motors.
