Fitness/Health for Life...

I have tried South Beach and couldnt stay motivated to eat the way they wanted me to. I work rotating shifts. It seems almost impossible to stay on track with eating. I more or less eat when I can. I have been doing good with not eating fast food. I just want to lose a few off the gut and I will be happy. I hope some of the weight is winter weight that I can shed now that I am getting outside and doing more.

Wow....it seems like you got it all under control, BT.

I used to restrict my caloric intake to 1200 per day. Had a shake on the morning, fresh green salad with a cup of tuna (packed in water) and another shake for dinner.

I also spent about 2-3 hours in the gym Mon-Fri and ran about two miles before hittin the weights. It was pretty good stuff...

I dropped about 80lbs in 6 months.

I dunno if it'll work for you, but it sounds like yer on the right track. My best advice? If you live alone and don't have many people come to visit (I'm not sayin yer a loner or anything, bro!), then you can take a big 'ol picture of yourself in nothing but yer undies and put it on the door of the fridge.

If you have many house guests or someone lives with you, perhaps it may not be the best idea. I haven't tried it...I'm afraid I'll suffer malnutrition if I do.

If anything, it sounds like you got it covered. I'll designate myself as the cheerleader. Now all I need is for Mikey D to make me a cheerleading uniform.

Hehehehehehe... Ok, now I don't need a pic of me in my drawers to help me not eat junk. This mental picture of YOU in a cheerleadin' outfit has done kilt my appetite!

Just kiddin', PB. Well, not really, but you know what I mean!

FWIW, I'm gonna find me a good picture of someone in racin' leathers and use POSITIVE re-enforcement to focus on my goals. I guess takin' some before shots to look at later and remind me of why I made these changes wouldn't be a bad idea though.

Good Luck BT.

If you like sweet coffee/tea, but don't like the artificial sweeteners like Equal and NutriSweet, then you have to try "Splenda"

I hate the other sweeteners, but Splenda tastes pretty damn close to real sugar. They say it's made from sugar, but has ZERO calories.

That's about all I can help.

I'll keep the Splenda thing in mind, bro. Thanks. So far I'm totally happy just drinkin' water. Not a big tea/coffee drinker. I'm more of a Dr Pepper addict.

Wow...I am really happy to see this thread. I am 5'11" and 300 lbs. Used to do alot of powerlifting, so I do have muscle under all this fat...just got to get rid of the fat.

And here enters the problem. I have a real hard time getting myself motivated to do it.

So good luck! I will be here trying to do it with you!

Good Luck!

Jeffrey

We're about the same size then... I'm 6'0" and pushin' 300 lbs right now if not a little more.

I'm afraid to weigh. I don't want to get any more depressed than I already am about the condition I've let myself get into.

Might I suggest the book "Body For Life" by Bill Phillips? It's ALWAYS on the shelf at Borders and most any other book outlet. That book has done more for me as far as motivation goes as any material I've read. That book along with other factors in my life right now are providin' me all the motivation I need at the moment. I'm really pumped about this change in my life. I even turned down a trip to the BBQ place tonight with the family. I'm planning all my meals and already had this evening's healthy meal made up and ready to eat. I stood strong in the face of BARBEQUE man! Go ME!!!

Anyway, I did really well on the BFL program before but I failed to make it a life change. I reached my target weight and size, started lettin' things slip, and then dropped it all together. I'm certain that I can do that program for the rest of my life this time. It was the easiest program I've ever used and trust me, I've used several.
drooling3.gif
It was also the healthiest, most nutritionally complete eating program I've used for losin' weight and gettin' fit.

If you check out the book let me know what you think. We could even coach and support each other if you're interested in something like that? That goes for anyone else interested in doin' this as well. We can sort of keep each other honest with it and provide each other with moral support and encouragement.

Diet Dr.Pepper is pretty good stuff. I can't really tell the difference.

I can tell a difference but it's not much.

Also, I actually pretty much quit the carbonated beverage thing a while back. I started gettin' hiccups every time I drank one. Never have 'em unless I drink a carbonated beverage...

So, I figured that somethin' in them must not be good for me so I dropped them for water and tea. Since I make horrible tea, I only drink that now when I eat with my Grandmother. She makes the BEST!

hehe...wouldn't I be so sexy, though? I daresay that WWJD would start coming after me....or perhaps if I put on a tennis girl outfit.

Hahah....I'm glad I could contribute, bro!

I know how ya feel Train.....I'd like to lose about 60 lbs (I'm 260 6') so I can keep up with Iced, but I can't seem to find motivation......I use it all up in the shop at the end of every day......by the time I get home....I'm completely spent.
I don't eat poorly and not alot either......I actually eat pretty healthy most of the time......work my azz to the bone, but just can't loose any weight.
Guess I have to find time to exercise more.
Let me know what works for ya will ya.

lots of good advise in here BT....

I'd like to offer up my 2 cents....

PATIENCE . Dont quit b4 you really get going .
We dont get pudgy over night , an we're sure as fug not gonna get skinny overnight either.

I recently gave up the "Thicker Beers" in an effort to shed some eccess....225 to 200 just by switching to a more clear beer .
Speaking of weight....dont weigh yerself Chris . Just shoot for a pant size , or a certain look . Body weight dont mean shid.....yer a big Futher Mucker , yer always gonna be large.... we just need to bring yer body fat percentage down. We have to watch we dont drain all yer strength an' muscle at the same time.... we cant have you gettin' hurt when yer wrestlin' them bandito's into the car.

hav a good 1..........RSD.

Yep...I'm with da Rubbah on that one.

I'd shoot fer how the clothes fit first. Get 'em down to fittin nice and loose, and then work on getting the sizes smaller from there.

I'm with ya, bro. I definitely want to meet somewhere between fat ass and skinny ass. I want to bulk up on lean muscle while losin' fat at the same time. Done it before. I was actually happy with looks, strength and clothes size when I hit 230 lbs. I could have lost a bit more fat, but a lot of the weight was muscle. I found out then that those target weights given out by doctors are bullshid, plain and simple. At my height I could never keep any muscle and still come in at the weights they want folks to weigh.

I may weigh once now and once when I get where I wanna be just so I know myself that I actually lost XXX pounds, but I'm NOT gonna monitor it as I go. I refuse to get caught up in bodyweight.
