Foot peg question ?

Can someone please tell me what these pieces on the foot pegs are for and can they simply be removed/unbolted ? Do they essentially just screw into the underside of the pegs ? They just look hideous and so out of place to me so would like to remove them if they can simply be removed providing they don’t have any real purpose.

They are feelers to let you know how far leaned over you are.....most remove them along with the decals and reflectors.....

I did not know that these were such an eyesore for this gang.

When I see carrion on the road I merely lean over and that convenient little spike hooks my dinner and drags it all the way home for me. I figured that for a solid riding skill test as well. Yip, had no idea what they were for. I've been calling 'em "possum-pickers."
