Seems like NASCAR to me. I too dreamed of being a F1 driver. My grandparents lived within earshot of Silverstone, I spent many summer days and evenings listening, watching and dreaming.
F1 is (was?) the pinnacle of automobole racing. It's a shame that Ecclestone et al don't realize that the draw of F1 is the fact that it's the antithesis of NASCAR, both spiritually and technically. The budgets are obscene, the racing is dangerous, the tracks are legendary, the drivers secondary to the machinery. I hope these measures don't pass, although they prolly would benefit the drivers safety, they would ruin the sport.

Just some thoughts .

It appears as though they want to both knock off some of the enormous funds it takes to race a car , slow them down a bit and a side result will be that the driver will have alot to do with winning or not and there should be more passing than in the recent past . Rule changes in 2004 lowering down force and now 2005 with tires and such have trended that way .

For 2005 they banned the launch control " again " so again , the driver has to do a better job . Same deal in becoming shifter cars . They will have less tendancy to leave the start line 1 2 3 4 and finish up that way it seems and just wait until the drivers start missing gears at 20k RPM . The next rule might be crankshaft blankets

I honestly think they are moving to what will be a better deal for the spectator . Will they kite with less down force ? Time will tell but slowing these cars down however much is a whole lot easier pill to swallow than the MotoGP bikes getting knocked down to 800cc for 2007 .

Anyway , it's not uncommon to resist change . These are just proposals right now and if the changes truly does make it a better and more exciting spectator sport maybe we can actually see more of it on TV .

Move over Nascar ...... Formula 1 is heading our way

you have to remember that the F1 manufacturers might not sign with Ecclestone in 2008 and start their own championship.

Sounds good to me.
Sounds good in theory, but look what it did to CART/IRL.
I just wish that the safety police would butt out. If it's dangerous and the drivers are scared, let them go get regular jobs. There are plenty of people that would be willing to take the chance, just look at the Isle of Man TT races.
If I didn't have kids, I'd race anything, anywhere.
