I have never heard of the front wheel locking up unless you squeeze the brakes....Although i did have an experience with sticky brakepads after i the rain water dried up on the disk..but after a good push they gave away...

i read this post twice , i dont have any awnsers , was your husband a member here ? i am sorry for your loss . in my area there is alot of sand on the roads from the snowstorm that came through last week , alot of the sand is piled up at the intersections sand on the roads will cause all sorts of problems with bikes , not that this was the problem , on my bike i will use the front brake 90% of the time , including emergency stopping , the only time i realy use the rear brake is in a parking lot , or traffic , once again i am sorry for your loss

first off sorry for your loss

never heard of this problem did you have a competent mechanic look over the bike see if it was functioning properly?

Just saw this thread..

No mam. I have not heard of just a front wheel locking up for no reason.. doesnt mean it cant or didnt happen.. I just havent heard of it.

there are times though.. if the situation is just wrong.. if you hit the front brake just even a little and you are going over any kind of slick surface.. sand/oil etc your front wheel will lock and go out from under you...

So for example.. if you are in a place where there is a lot of snow.. you could find sand.. salt on the roads..

Center of roads often will have oil spots that might be slick..

So there are circumstances that could cause a front wheel to lock with ease..

So sorry for your loss.... I hope some day you find the answers you are looking for....

Sorry, But no The Brakes on the Busa have a reputation for being "Spongy" meaning they lack initial bite and feel and this will in fact make it a little harder to lock the front. Otherwise Busa Brakes are just like every other brake setup on any other sportbike, tried and true technology.

It is easy however to lock up the front on any bike if you do not allow enough time for the motorcycles weight to transfer forward and plant the front. This takes about 1/2 a second or so and once the front is properly loaded it's very hard to lock the front on clean pavement. In a Panic Braking scenario though it's pretty easy to grab too much brake, too quickly locking the front tire, and when the front tire locks, it's pretty easy to crash.

Very Sorry for your loss, not much comfort to offer, just don't have the words.

Never herd of the front locking on this bike. In the past all the
braking I did, I only used the front in any situation only. That
may explain front skid only. Most braking from the front, causes some riders to never use the rear.
Very sorry for your loss.

JIMR,

Sorry to hear about your loss. Like the guys have said above, the Busa is not prone to front brake lock up. Things happen very fast on the street. I had 20 years of riding under my belt when I had my first crash. I got into a complicated situation where I had to deal with 1 more thing than I was able to. It only had a micro secondto make a decision and made the wrong one. Fortuneatly for me, I only had a 12 week recovery. I hope you find the truth, get closure and find peace.

I have not heard of any wheel lock up. If anything did anyone work on the brakes?

May he rest in peace

May God be with you and yours during this difficult time in your life.
Like the guys have said, I can't see the front brakes locking up for any other reason than rider induced quick and full squeeze of the brake lever. Was it a panic type stop that caused the tire marks? The only other possibilty I can think of is something maybe getting caught in the wheel spokes, causing the wheel to freeze up?
At any rate, I want to wish you luck in finding the answers you're looking for and God bless!

I think the others have covered the break situation. I just want to say how sorry I am for the loss of your loved one. Everyone on this site who rides knows of the potential for serious injury or loss of life. That being said, I hope you will find comfort knowing your husband was doing something he loved to do, and I'm sure he understood the risks involved. Does that make it easier for you to deal with ? Probably not.Although the members on this site are a wealth of information in regards to the hayabusa,we are also a very compasionate and understanding group of people. I hope you will visit this site in the future and let us know how you and your family are doing. May god bless you.

I had a problem with my horn being caught in the cables after I lowered it. I grabbed the brakes at low speed and I did have a slight lock up....

Could be a seized bearing in the front wheel, but highly unlikely that the wheel would lock up totally. You'd get a wobble from the front end first.
Sorry for your loss.

Sorry about your Loss, I have a 05 that I hit a truck with today and front forks and and brake disc looked fine. but the front wheel would not turn. the dealer had to remove the calipers to unload the bike from the truck.. I will press this issue and see why mine locked up and will let you know my findings..

a friend of mine was going down the road when all of a sudden the front wheel just locked on him. when we were taking the wheel off trying to get it to work again we found a small pebble had gotten in one of the holes in the rotor and that weged with the caliper. i never would have believed it if i didn't see it, but it happened.

I havent heard of any problems,,, only think i could remotely think of,,, is maybe your husband may have grabbed the front brake to quickly. And locked up the front wheel by accident!

Im very sorry for your loss!

GODSPEED!

Sorry about your loss. I did have that happen once though, but on a Yamaha I had. At 60 MPH the bike seemed sluggish and boging so I gave it more gas and suddenly the front locked. Scared the heck outta me. I trailered it home and took it to a local dealer and they said it was caused by the master cylinder to the front brakes and replaced it and that fixed the problem. But this was just my experience an a FZR600.:(
