thinker,
"If they want to get married, it is a FINANCIAL issue that relates to things like insurance benefits and debt. Why should I give a shid if two men want to call themselves married? They are probably already living together and doing all those married type things. They are only asking that their partnerships be recognized as legally binding. Who cares? "
In principal I care. Marriage is founded in christianity and there are some universal tenets that go along with it... Two guys living together does not ever equal a married couple, which is a husband and wife. Regardless of their sexual orientation, that cannot happen regardless of what some dope smoking hippy politician thinks. As for legal status, there are several legal avenues including civil unions that address legal rights. By your reasoning I could marry my pet turtle... and pronouce us husband and wife.
First off, what basis do you claim that marriage is founded in Christianity? Nobody got married before Christ was born, the Bible was written and Christian tenants were created?
So your point is that Jews, Muslims, Agnostics and Athiest can't get married?
So you say you care, but you don't explain why you care. Just don't get invloved. You bring up Christianity, from which I could site numerous tenants which say things like God will judge sinners and let he who is without sin...........Anyway, who are we to FORCE people to live by our code. Are you in favor of making it illegal for Atheists to get married because they do not worship like we do? If someone wants to go to city hall and get legally married, (not necessarily religiously married), who am I to stop it. Where in the Bible does it instruct me to stop it.
And if you want to marry your turttle, caugh up the cash for the marriage license and have at it.
Again....why should I care?
Sup Think,
I agree with most of what you say. I feel it's an individual's choice to make their own decisions (free will). As a Christian however I'm required to plant seeds when lead by the Holy Spirit. Here is one scripture from the bible:
9Do you not know that the wicked
will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the
sexually immoral nor
idolaters nor
adulterers nor
male prostitutes nor
homosexual offenders nor
thieves nor the
greedy nor
drunkards nor
slanderers nor
swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
This scripture is the best depiction of who stands to be told "depart from me for I knew you not" and guess who this scripture talks about... ALL OF US!! Somewhere in that scripture we're all located. It just goes to show we're all a work in progress. The thing is as we grow closer to Christ we are convicted by the Holy Spirit and learn to limit repetition of the same mistakes.
I also agree with you on how we treat other people and their personal trials. Honestly whenever you see someone killed because of their sexual orientation, it probably means someone was trying to kill something to which they were attracted. I'm in no way qualified to place judgement because I'm just as inperfect as they are. That's why TRUE CHRISTIANS, not those who judge, not those who chastise or be little have a compassion for the lost. By accepting the right to gay marriage it's the equivalent of saying God I believe your word, but let's make an exception in this case.
But, I'll say this people if you can't see what's happening around us there are some eye openers: The bible says in the end of days the young will be younger & wiser. Now tell me who was sexually active at 10 years of age on this board. Man I was doing good at that age to control the piss, better yet strokin (I repent). Our youth are being corrupted by shows like:
The bachelor (Marriage no longer has any value)
Fear Factor (Love of money)
Queer eye for the straight guy (It's cool to be gay)
The enemy is using all avenues and tools to mislead us all, but his focus is on our kids. They are the future and lack the ability to discern what's spiritually wrong and right. That's where "parents" come into play also. We slip up he (the enemy) slips in! THAT is why so many speak out against gay marriages (Nothing wrong with speaking out, but there's a fine line between disagreement & judging). There have been homosexuals throughout time (Sodom & Gomorrah), but why are we now dealing with "gay marriages" hmmmm end of times maybe.
In closing just remember the scripture included with this reply includes everyone but Jesus, so we all have issues and need to make sure our issues are taken care of as we attempt to help others take care of theirs.
