Gen 1 suspention settings

We need more information. Suspension settings are not 1 size fits all. What is your weight? What do you consider fast? Etc.

I'd suggest you pick up a copy of Andrew Trevitt's "Sportbike Suspension Tuning". Good stuff!

You can also gather some great info at "Sportbikewrench.com". Dave Moss has some really good suspension videos there!

Here are some major problems with this write up correct me if wrong but I am not new to this. measuring front shocks while on a back wheel support is a non no I was taught to only measure suspension while both are on the ground infact supporting the rear will change the results of the outcome up front. Also a simple one the special tool they say you need is so you dont scatch everything and or dent it is just professional to use the correct tolls.
When taking your measurement sitting on the bike just have someone keep it from tipping over and someone measure it I was taught this back in the 80's from Kessler himself so I am pretty sure it is importante. Thats it so correct me if I'm wrong.

You are absolutely correct!

I think Jinkster's thread is how he set up his bike, not necessarily how you should set up yours. It is a good "How to" thread for the beginner. Good illustrations of how it's done!

Andrew Trevitt has a much better detail with photos of the proper way to set up suspension. He also explains why it's done as well as how!

I paid a local shop $35 to set up my bike's suspension...I was in and done in less than 30 minutes :)

uhm gentlemen...please read a lil closer before discrediting a post that's helped many over the past 5 years and recieved 11+ pages of compliments, kudos and gratitude for the results from just about ALL who followed the instructions properly and you will find that i DID NOT use a rear wheel stand for measuring front forks..(gimme a lil more credit than that please)...the rear wheel stand was strictly used to jack the bikes REAR up high enough to use a 5/8ths steel rod through the swingarms pivot pin and rest on jack stands to determine FULL EXTENSION of the REAR suspension...as this can not be accomplished while resting on a rear stand.

As a CNC programmer/machinist i've personally designed and manufactured products for/and worked alongside of some of the top names in the sportbike suspension industry...but what would i know..L8R, Bill.
