Gen 3 Price and Release Date | Details from a Drag Racing Perspective....

At first I was disappointed at the engine displacement staying the same and the horsepower figures, then I realized it will have 3 cats and electronic restrictions for euro 5. I wanted the busa to dethrone the h2 and make an entry like the original. Well times have changed and emissions regulations are tighter than ever so I understand why the power is down. I thought the gen 3 would have had vvt at minimum. Maybe that system has it's limitations or they are just cheap bastards lol. I can't wait to see how much power can be extracted from the new platform.

That's how I've been looking at it, they have it detuned so much for emissions that i expect it to top the gen 2 nicely once that exhaust is gone and the ecu is unlocked by someone with real know how. I did read some comments from Suzuki on their Facebook and they really put emphasis on the fact its setup and designed to be stronger in mid range area. So now I just have to sit patiently till someone can get their hands on one and make it do what its really made to do under all that euro 5 bs.

If I were really interested in a Gen3 I’d be severely disappointed in the motor. A buyer shouldn’t have to ‘extract’ power from the king of superbikes. It should be the king w/o owner mods. Owner mods should ‘enhance’ the bike‘s power output, comfort and maybe even it’s rideability. New owners shouldn’t have to modify a 20K motorcycle any more than that. Granted, the new motor may be better than the current one and maybe be able to produce (with owner mods) even more power but, a bigger motor would easily do all that (and) check all the other boxes prospective buyers have been waiting for, for years.

I agree, Suzuki was NOT listening when they went to events to see what we were doing to our bikes...the platform is sound and I get the idea behind using the same powerplant but in reality, they could have done so much more...The engine delivery as it sits is less than what is expected in a $20+ bike....

Just like you mentioned Terry, the bike has probably great potential but it is a sad day when the end user has to tap that potential instead of it coming to us ready to go.

In the same breath, Suzuki has done this sort of thing many times...remember the Katana, it came out as an iconic trend setter in '81. Then got so neutered it was unrecognizable and even made fun of for years and years. The new version is much better but still based on a very old platform (albeit arguably the best GSXR platform made) and is so far out of the running as a iconic bike it's just sad.

Hey brother I think you gonna have to get that silver and red combo so that u got the fastest color on the bike . Hopefully this summer I'll get to take a trip back home to see my family in Pickens and I'll be able to see the one you pick in person:thumbsup:

I'm with you on this one! I suppose I'm not severely disappointed because I had a feeling IF suzuki did come out with a new bike it wouldn't have a bigger motor. Did I dream about factory forced induction? Yes... Factory big bore? Yes.. Variable valve timing? Yes... More expensive than I could afford with updates? Yes... I know for us speed junkies we want the highest hp and torque we can get out the box. If the price is 18k now I'm sure forced induction would have added atleast 5k to that. I do think suzuki has the ability to go forced induction, they should know from reading these forums what the motor can handle. Definitely a missed opportunity to make a formidable opponent to the h2. Bi will wait and watch to see what the aftermarket can do. As far as the electronics goes I think it's what the busa needed to take a step in the modern era.
