Gen 3 Quickshifter Thoughts

In my OP I was speaking mostly about the feel. I too am under 5500 RPM for break-in which is a problem that will be solved by the end of the weekend :D. Under 5500 RPM the shifter upshifts fine with a little more effort in sport mode. Downshifting in any mode seems a bit clunky. I have only hit the low limit once downshifting into first and it was a bit annoying. I'm sure as the tranny breaks in it will smooth out a bit, but it will probably stay in tour mode since I don't really want more effort or travel at any time.

Can you please try it with the QS off at the same high RPMs and let us know if you still felt the same?

Yup! I’ll try that too and report back. Hopefully this weekend.

The QS is like butter for me between 1,500 and 11,000 RPMs. The lower the RPM the more firmly I need to press down or pull up on the lever but it’s a clean gear change between all gears. Even 1-2 through neutral… its a clean gear change as long as I pull up or push down all the way firmly.

Again, it’s the lag after the gear change at over 8k RPMs, giving it proper throttle, that’s got my panties in a bunch lol.

I've long been a fan of clutchless up and down shifting and find I never have a problem downshifting with then QS when I use a quick throttle blip. For upshifting at WOT 3>4>5 with QS, it always gives me that slight hesitation if i don't do the throttle blip myself. I refuse to use the clutch for those transitions because it spins my rear (stock) every time. Caught by surprise the first time. But i had just come off the CBR so was using bad habits.

I've tested and I don't find any black marks where the lag occurs. Something else I noticed is the exhaust gets noticeably louder during the lag. Definitely sounds more like a delayed rev match that's trying to happen.

I got an enlightening message from a member about page 2-92 in the manual.

When the shift change operation is performed without clutch lever squeezed and with the throttle opening angle kept constant, the "Quick Shift" operation can be smoothly performed.

I'm always open to the idea that it could be user error on my part! It's very possible I'm still twisting on the throttle when I QS. That could be confusing the system? I will test this and report back.

That sounds like your problem.
I don't change the throttle position when I shift up or down.
I hold it steady at an rpm that will get me through the gears quickly to highway cruising speeds in 6th.
Or wide open to get me quickly to whatever speed I roll out of in 6th.
For downshifts(or upshifts), I never blip the throttle, even if I am on the throttle in any position, or completely off the throttle.
Grip it and rip it, the quickshifter doesn't need your help.
It's almost seems counterintuative, and can take a little getting used to...but becomes highly addictive once you do!

First ride I forgot about the QS as I just wanted to get on the bike. Ride 2 I remembered about it and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite parts of the Gen3. It'll take a while to become accustom to no clutch pull and to do it smoother during normal driving.
I started out hating it on the gsxr, didn't see the need or use...now I love it, and can't imagine not having it.

Yup. User error on my part. When accelerating, if I hold the throttle in one place and don’t roll on it the QS is a flawless and crisp gear change every time. My problem is I was rolling on the throttle gradually sometimes while I’d shift and that caused the lag issue. Problem solved! Thanks everyone for your help!

It's new(er) tech, and seems wrong to use it, lol, it messed with my mind too.
After you get used to it, it's great.

I came from a s1000xr with a QS. The Busa out of the box was not as smooth. However, each other on miles got smoother and now up shifts match the snot east of the BMW and the downshifts are almost as smooth.

Admittedly it could Be me getting used to a slightly different bike/QS.

I've been on a 2018 gsxr1000R(bought new 4-19), so 3 years now, and the QS did get alot smoother after some miles.

....if i can get my damn size 13 heel to stop snicking it into first gear when hunting for the side stand- i'm sure ill love it too!

When Chris Moore (www.mooremafia.com) flashes your ECU he has an apparent fix for the quickshifter woes. I'm waiting on delivery and have ZERO experience with quickshifters but thought this worth sharing.
From the website:
Quick Shifter Fix $50
For bikes with a quick shifter from the factory. This fix takes the timing delay out of the quick shifter.

Thoughts?

Seems like good news for gen 3 owners...too bad Suzuki didn't cough up the fee to fix their mistake though.
