Gen I vs. Gen II

My brother just bought a new 09 and has put about 1000 miles on it. His bike is in for first service, so he came by and borrowed my 01 today. When he got back he went on and on about how much of a difference there is between the two. I have not had the opportunity to ride the Gen II but he felt his bike was much smoother, etc. and advanced in every way. Just wondering if some of you have the same impression. By the way I have Marvic Wheels and Ohlins front and rear. I know my suspension is set perfect for me, that and the wheels give me a chance on running down those blooming BMW's in the mountains.

Also had an '01 and now have an '08. When I was shopping to get back on a Busa, looked at a few cherry Gen Is, then test drove a Gen II. Choice was easy.

It would be difficult to imagine an 8 yr newer anything not being better all the way around./QUOTE]

Yes, I agree with that. I was just hoping for some feedback from some of the board members to give their impression or opinion on going from a Gen I to a Gen II.

I've ridden both back to back & it was day and night.

Granted the 08 I was on was so new, the wax was still on the chain from the dealer. 100 or so miles on it. Bike was tight and smooth in every way.

Of course the Gen II should be a better bike...but it's ugly. - That horrible rear end and ghastly paint schemes...blech.

Now, now, ladies, you all know that no Gen II looks as good as this:

i agree with you 100%. i hope i can get my hands on the copper/silver someday to keep my 08' company. on a side note, i had an 01' as well and the 08' does feel much smoother and more refined but i would prefer to have them both.

I hade a 2007 red and now have a 2008 orange and black and like it was stated there is alot of improvements. power and smooth so far the only thing I dont care for is the body pannels it is no way as easy to take them off as a gen i

I had this situation about two weeks ago (deciding on gen 1 vs. gen 2).
After riding both it was an easy decision for me to go with the gen 2.
My last bike was a 2007 Yamaha R1 with lots of mods and after getting bored with it I sold it and started searching for a Busa. I'm glad I did. I love this bike!

I rode my '01 and my friend's '08 back to back and I actually prefer my Gen1.

The Gen2 is a nice machine and the engine is definitely stronger and smoother, but the new bike's steering damper makes the steering REALLY heavy and seems to fight your inputs at lower speeds. It actually felt like it was pushing back, very weird sensation. Plus, the bike as a whole feels heavier and more unwieldy. The instrument cluster is great though, very classy, and the gear indicator is a great addition. I'm always looking for 7th gear... :banghead:

The Gen1 is coarser and less refined but the steering feels more connected and confidence inspiring. It still is fast as hell so the extra power of the Gen2 really isn't missed. I also prefer the styling of the Gen1, the droopy Gen2 tail is ghastly IMHO. Also as mentioned before, stripping the fairings off of a Gen1 is a 10 minute affair which makes maintenance less frustrating.

That all being said, I'm still considering trading up to the new black/red Gen2 bike as my Gen1 is over 60K on the odo and I wouldn't mind having a newer bike with less mileage. Plus the 2010/11 graphics are really cool. Black is a slimming colour so the added visual bulk of the Gen2 would be nicely camouflaged. :beerchug:

I'll grant you they could have stayed with the G1 tail or something similar but once you dark smoke the tail lights on a G2 the look is absolutely preditorial. We're talking wickedazz Pteradactyl. And the B/O 08 is about the best color I can think of. It's hard to go wrong on color with any busa. They all look great.

So, the Gen II appeals to people who can't spell?:poke:

I know I'm going counter-trend but I think the stock Gen II tail looks better than the smoked version. JMO, of course.
