Answering to myself. White wire is positive. Tab should be facing up when installed. There is no need to remove the "hat".

The first pic, I can't remember if that tab goes up or down. There is a spot in the housing for it to sit and is self explanatory.

The second pic, leave it in place if the bulb doesn't hit it.
