Hi there. I want to get a Gen 3 Hayabusa to replace my Gen 1, but nobody seems to do decent size lockable hard cases for this particular model. Your setup is exactly what I’ve been looking for and I have a set of V35s from another bike. How did you modify your Gen 3 to take them. Did you modify the SW Motech PLXR profile rails and Alu-Rack from the Gen 2 ? A few pics would be really appreciated. Great work by the way.

Hey there, I’ll try to explain:
What you see on my gen3 is the complete SW motech luggage I kept from my gen2. The Gen2 tail is wider so I had to buy spacers for the front mounting points of the top rack. As you can imagine, that meant I also had to order longer bolts. For the top rack rear mounting points, I welded a piece of flat bar, reshaped the end of the mounting points and drilled new holes. I also had to order spacers and longer bolts to make sure the rack cleared the fairing. All these bolts and spacers are included when you buy a gen3 specific top rack but, it was just cheaper to source my own parts. As for the side racks, all I did was tweak the “legs” on the racks by clamping them on my vice until the two top mounting points lined up. For the foot peg mounting point, I took the brackets that come with the racks and are permanently attached to the pegs and drilled a new hole so the mounting points for the rack was pushed further back. Lastly, I took the bar that also come with the racks and goes across the license plate and cut the two ears for the the rack’s optional lighting so I could flip the bracket upside down.
Hope this helps. I can try to look up links for what I ordered but, that’s the easy part. What took the longest was modified the top rack rear mounting points and tweaking the side racks legs just enough to line up with the mounting points.

Let me know if you want more details. I was able to accomplish this by picking another members brain that had already done this mod.

Hi Miguel. Thanks for taking the time to explain how you did this. That’s very helpful. I’ll be looking into this in the new year. Best regards. Reggie

You are welcome. I can try digging through my orders history from when I installed all this this past summer and share some links. Standby.

That’s really helpful. I wonder how many other potential Gen 3 owners were put off by lack of hard luggage options. Your post may well have awakened renewed interest. Cheers. Reggie
Coming from a H2 SX SE to a Gen-3 there is a little bit of me that wishes it had the same luggage. Even the Suzuki luggage on other Suzuki models isn’t as good as Kawasaki’s.

Along with the centre stand (an option that the Busa lost after the Gen-1) the Kawasaki luggage uses the ignition key to open / remove, has no ugly frames left in place, can be colour matched by changing the trim on the cases, cases swap between models, and is just nice to use.

As I mentioned in other threads, I think there could have been a more touring version of the Gen-3 without taking anything away from the current design.

I agree, if the Gen-3 had a luggage and centre stand option it would have had the better touring features of the H2 SX SE and no cost to those that didn’t want it.
