look like we remember him.

Sad sad ending but very hard to believe the timeline. WTH did he do for that week? Ignore the dying, probably howling dog in a cage and his wife on the floor of the bathroom? Could a severe Alzheimer person be in that much of a haze?

Could a severe Alzheimer person be in that much of a haze?

Absolutely.

My mother in her last year suffering from Alzheimer's wandered around aimlessly, recognized no one, defecated and urinated on the floor and ate with her hands. The last few months she was bedridden, essentially unconscious and starved to death as she had forgotten how to eat. She was 79 when she died.

cheers

Alzheimer's is one of the worst things a person can get. My dad died from it and like others he didn't recognize anything or anyone in his last days. Just awful. When he wasn't in the bed he was in a wheelchair wearing diapers the entire time. He had to be made to eat and at the end that didn't work. Absolutely no control over himself. He was 80.

My grandmother died from it and the hardest thing for me was seeing how she basically lost her feelings/love for us. We lived far and she would cry and give me a huge hug when I went to visit but that stopped, even when she could recognize who I was and called me by my name, her affection was gone. It’s a terrible disease.

Then you go the other direction and see people in their mid '90s who have their full faculties and can remember everything....

We have a couple who live in our neighborhood in their '90s and live on their own....he even drives still.

I love talking with him and listening to him recount his youth........

My in-laws just moved into one of those +55 communities and, at 60, they are the teenagers on their block. lol! Some of their neighbors are 80 plus and live alone, fly around on golf carts and stay super active playing golf. I could talk to some of them for hours. I told my wife we are moving into one of those once we get old enough. They sure know how to stay active and “young”.

A few years back a widower in the neighborhood moved into a community living facility and he loves it....his wife passed away years ago and he was rattling around in their family home and he got tired of it.....

I ran into him at the grocery store a few weeks ago and he said he has a 1 bedroom apartment and can either cook a few of his own meals or pay for a meal plan and eat in the cafeteria which he describes as more of a restaurant,

There's all kinds of activities for them, cards, carpet bowling, darts, trips to various places...

He said one thing he wasn't counting on is that the women are all looking for love....he's in good shape and healthy and is the only man on his wing.....he said he has more casual sex now than he has ever had in his life......none of the ladies want any kind of commitment but they all want loving.....he said he's getting worn out.....

I burst out laughing when he said that.........

That’s too funny!!! Sounds like he is truly enjoying retirement.
Your post confirms the first thing that stood out to me when I was working on the fixer upper they bought from a lady that decided to sell after her husband passed away…… The amount of single ladies. Most of them is because they are widows not divorced. I guess there is no better proof that women live longer than men than looking at the demographics in this +55 community. I was joking with my wife about me making sure I have my will and life insurance squared away but, she did not find my comment funny.
