GenII coolant change

Saiid, I flushed mine twice with distilled water still came out green so I don't think you can ever get it clear.

By flushing you mean simply undo hose drain and fill back up with distiller water from radiator and run it for awhile then drain it again
OR are you going thru motions of bleeding air and all that as well while flushing ?

I flushed mine per Engine Ice directions: use vinegar/distilled water mix, drained system of OEM coolant, add vinegar/distilled water start motor and allow it to warm/open thermostat, shut down and drain cooling system, refill with Engine Ice. I did the "flush" twice, the second time the flush mix came out clear.

So similar to a car you drain and fill , start and wait for thermo to open then add a little more to top it off , run it an then do it all over again to flush it properly ?

During flush, not necessary to top off all the way. I put some water in the overflow tank, and then filled it up as high in radiator as it would go; let it run until fan's came on, then turned off and let it cool off. It sucked all the water out of the overflow tank.

Doing same with coolant. Also massaged the lines and shook bike back and forth to get full. Since I'm not putting side back on until tomorrow, that will give it a little more time to bleed off remaining air. So far I've not used 3.1 qts, more like 2.7.

Ok so ill drain it and flush it like 3 or 4 times.
Not gonna go half way and if its not pretty in pink I'll be bummed.

at .99 a gallon for distilled water I can afford a few.

Rather that than see my new exp coolant turn 'yooogly'

Add white vinegar to the distilled water and you won't have to flush it but twice to get the OEM stuff out. From Engine Ice website:

For any coolant and anytime you are changing coolant, we recommend a simple solution of distilled water and white distilled vinegar, both available at your local grocery store.

1. Mix the water/vinegar at 50/50
2. Fill system with the solution
3. Run engine until warm
4. Let cool
5. Drain
6. Run clear water through to rinse out vinegar.
7. Fill with coolant of choice.

This is the same as cleaning your coffee maker. The vinegar is acidic enough to clean out any contaminants and residual coolants, yet it won’t harm your seals and gaskets.

Oh well, I'll keep that in my mind next time...too late now!

Going to Winn Dixie now for Hagen Daas Chocolate and i guess more water and vinegar.

Thanks

Let you know.

All went well.
Flushed it 3 times with the 50/50 vin/water mix.
3rd time was the charm as you can see in pic. (label in bottom of pan is clear and clean)
Came out clean.
Then flushed it a 4th time with straight distilled water to get the vinegar out.
What also helped was I took off upper radiator hose as well.
You can see this in pics. It had about a cup of water in it everytime so it helped speed things up a bit by draining this everytime as well.

Filled it up then capped it and put a little in res bottle.
Started it up and let it run till fans came on.
Turned it off and checked the level after it cooled.
Did this 3-4 times.
After that I lifted tank and loosen air bleeder bolt and saw coolant come out.
Topped res bottle off up to full line and put her back together.

Total time was 3hrs last night and 1hr today.
No hurry last night or today.

I rode it for like 10 mins to get gas and back . Let it cool and checked it a final time.
Coolant was still right up to the top.

You can see how much I got in there.
One whole bottle and what you see gone from 2nd bottle COUNTING RESERVE BOTTLE.
Service manual says 2.9 qts.
I got about 2.5 maybe a bit more counting res bottle in there.
Its nice and pink...

I did already notice it takes a few mins longer to get hot enough for the fans to come on but other than that I havent had time. Will let you know.

Oh and I also found one of Adams rubber balls in my header pipe.
That will be a sep thread in random section.

That looks like just about how much I got into mine. Didn't remove top hose but squeezed/lifted it to get it to drain some. I've got to heat cycle mine one more time tonight and see were it comes out. I actually overfilled it just a little to make up for any air that might remain in the lines (don't want to have to take that dang cover off again until Oil change time!
