Good brand of tire to get?

Okay, I'm not an online board newbie, but I can't find the search feature on this board!

So that being said, here's my story..

I had my bike inspected today and failed due to rear tread being too low.. so I need a new one. I'd like one that will hook up better than the stock one did at the track.

The manual searching I did through many pages of threads in a couple of forums revealed people like the Parelli Diablos and the Michelin Pilot Activ tires.

Whatever tire, it needs to be streetable for long rides.. but as I said, I'd like it to hook up better on the track as well if possible. It won't kill me if I need a new tire every year. I'll probably only go 3 or so thousand miles this summer.

Thanks in advance.

I see the icon!! I was looking for text and even CTRL-F'd the page for it but couldn't find it.

Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone know a cheap place to get them?

www.parts411.com

You can beat their prices or service. There are some sites that actually have lower prices, but they hit you with "handling & processing" fees.

The pilot power is a twistie tire bro. Its kind of pointy so it will have a smaller contact patch vs a round tire. If you want to hook up at the track I would look at the Shinkos. The draggers rave about em.

I don't know crap about em cuz I am a twisty rider. PM Cache, he does the 1/4 mile thing.

Thanks BusaFever. I'll PM the guy you mentioned.

I do want a good 1/4 mile tire moreso than twisties. How about getting a larger tire? I remember reading about people doing it and not getting much of a gain.

Thanks.

Mileage BT56 4500 miles, BT20 4000 miles, Pirelli Diablo 3500 miles. Pictured is friend after a few weeks of getting used to the Busa. His everyday bike is a Yamaha 600r gets some good lean out of the Busa. Fitted is Pirelli Diablo tires.
Having to travel 100 miles before getting anything twistie, tires wear a flat spot. My own experience is Diablo retains a good profile during it's wear. Diablo rubber must be harder has less spallding from power out of corners. At high speed does wear quickly 130 mph down the freeway a few miles can see the wear. Very sticky on dry. Pirelli rates the Diablo in a SuperSport tire catagory. Between Track and SportTour tires. It overlaps into track type. It's definely a 2:1 two rears for every front change out.
Personally looking at something with more wear mileage. 180/55ZR17 is largest size Pirelli Diablo Strata or Metzler Roadtech Z6. These aren't track rated at all. Thinking of long distance riding trips later this Summer. See how handle and wear.

if you'll check it you'll find that http://www.oneidasuzuki.com beats parts411 on "to your door" prices on tires..

or they did 2 months ago anyway.

Never had a problem with anythign i've ordered from them.. so I dunno how their customer service is.. but the stuff gets here when they say it's going to.. so far .. everytime.

I'm a pirelli man myself, Running the super corsas now, very sticky and confidence inspiring, little to no warm up required with these tires, but the Michelin Pilot Sports are a good alternative I hear.NJ.:)

I stand corrected... Parts411.com wins by about $2.50

I bow to the superior bargain finder.. hahah

I think I never bought from parts411 because my billing addy is a PO box and they make it a PITA to have stuff shipped to my work address even though it's on file with my credit card company.

I got a buddy running a Metzeler Z6 and he loves it. has more of a flatened profile than a twistie tire.

i haven't ridden the michelins.. but the pirelli are great.. and considerably cheaper.

Really steep/rounded profile compared to factory, or dunlop 208's.. makes turn in quicker... or it feels like it anyway.

can't speak for mileage.. i've only got about 200 miles on the set.. but the first 150 miles of their life was at a track day... haha trust me... they grip!

the best IMO 1/4mi tire good for the street is the Shinko 003. they are cheap too.... anywhere from $100 to $130

Thanks for your reply Cache.. Will that tire be good for twisties in daily driving as well?

I don't need the cheapest tire. I want a great all around tire with a better grip than stock for the 1/4 mile (so not a tire best for twisties).

Shinko 003 comes with a warning sticker about cornering, (or lack thereof...) so you'll have to figure it out for yourself. That being said I run around with 10lbs in mine and a 6" stretch,so I can't blame the tire for lack of handling. It does however stick damn well on the track, and pretty good on the street once it's warmed up good. Good luck finding a tire that does it all for you, you'll have to give up in one area to gain in a different one......
How'd that strap work for ya?

dont ask me about twisties.... the only ones I did was the first year of my bike being stock, keepin up with the other riders on my stock battlax tires.

Thanks for the tips guys.. I understand I can't get a tire that's great in all cases. By twisties I just mean normal daily driving, going around corners from lights at 10-15 mph, nothing major, no knees to the road or anything.

I think I'm seriously considering the Pirelli Diablo Corsa. Does that sound like a good fit for my intentions? I think so judging by other's comments. Just want to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Thanks.

Still haven't managed to get one for a fair price.  I really wanted the one from Schitz Racing but they didn't have either black nor an ETA of availability so I ended up cancelling my order.  Didn't want a red or blue one on my black/gray Busa.
