"Goop" all over my chain?

Okay, so in cleanin up my bike today, I have found there is a lot of goop on my chain... And as a newbie first bike owner, first time really cleaning my bike, I am not sure if this goop is good or bad? It looks bad to me... And since I spent almost three hours trying to get my love looking fabulous, I have to post to ask you guys what to do about this! Anyway... There is this goop all over the chain, and some even on the bike itself where the chain obviously flings this goop... Cause that WHOLE area doesn't look healthy to me.... :please:

My question to all you who know more about this than I do (that would be mechanically inclined, bike owner, and busa owner).... I know the chain needs to have some kinda grease on it... But can I do anything to get rid of the goop? And what do you use to get it off? if so what should I use? Cause this is obviously very accumulated goop, as I don't think the guy that owned the bike before me ever bothered with cleaning or polishing anything.. (Personally, I believe he should have to dig his own hole, and I would do him the duty of popping him off and laying him in it!)

Have attached some pictures to give a better idea of this "goop"
Also a pic of what I have accomplished cause I am such a pround Newbie!

And yes, I used Pledge, and yes, it works better than honda polish.

I spray wd40 on a rag and clean my chain that way, I then use dupont teflon spray to wax my chain,.

The Dupont spray wax is an easy way to keep your chain clean and lubed up. You can get it at Lowes and it comes in a light blue can.

One of the cheapest and one of the Best cleaners is kerosene.

I have use and still use on occasion penetrating oil - this works just as well but is not a cheap.

Ensure chain is warm when you clean and relube. And make sure when you relube to wipe away the excess.

gas or kerosene on a rag and wipe it off with that. DO NOT do it with the bike in gear running on stands if ya wanna keep your fingers

kerosene and wd40 as said above. i use belray for the chain wax and love it. not even a little bit of sling....

if you've been riding bikes long enough, "goop" should not be a "new" thing. kerosene to clean (as the owner's manual prescribes) and any bike-specific lube you can buy easily will be fine.

By the way, your chain will stay like mine for hundreds of miles after using the Dupont.
Here's proof.:beerchug:

I did include in the original post that I am a newbie first bike owner, and that is the first time cleaning my new bike....
Thanks for the advice

I always have goop all over my chain. I need to buy a rear stand at least, then I'd bother with cleaning it up better.

As it is now, I have to roll it back and forth in my driveway lubing it up... so no, I don't bother keeping it perfect. I make sure it's not completely caked in nasty, and it's lubed up nice and good.

I keep the rest of her nice and clean though.
