gotta ask (Busa Good First Bike?)

Here's my 2 cent. YES!! I just started riding last year and the only bike I wanted was the busa for its looks not power. But all my friends "all but one" said the busa would get me killed. Well I chicked out and bought a FZ6. Thinking it would be better for me. WRONG!! Now I have two bikes the 08 FZ6 and my 08 Busa. If you want the busa get it. dont be like me and get stuck with a bike that you hate to ride. Im a big boy and 600 is just to small. Plus with me I dont know if its a mind thing or what but I fear safer on the busa. It makes you be good cause it can at any time it can kick your ass. Search your feelings you know it to be true...

LMAO....maybe Im just a ****ty rider. I started out 250 ninja, gs500, 2000 r6, now to the busa. Bought it...it was lowered, drag strap, 44 rear, extremely off on the suspension settings....anyway, first ride was to remove all that crap and take it back to stock as far as suspension goes b/c it was a drag bike...anyway, went around a turn 1/2 a mile from my house....went to stop for a stop sign...ate pavement...anyway, only minor scuffs since I was going slowish or what I thought was slow...now that I look back it was prolly around 40-50 and I prolly ate the pavement not only because of the suspension settings or new cold tires, but because I had no IDEA that my Busa does not have a clue what slow means. Anyway, this past wed, me and a friend who also has a busa were going to bike night...we were far into the 3 didgets rocking out hard....when all of the sudden a truck moves into my lane....God was watching out for me because I missed the bumper of the truck by inches....I raced Karts for 10 years when I was growing up, I have rode bikes for a good while now (in the south where our summers are long) rode dirt bikes, raced cars...needless to say if I was off by a couple .002s I would have been a bumper sticker....noone should start out on a Busa. It would be like telling a 16 year old go have fun and be safe and handing him the keys to an F1 car. :rulez: Learn or burn

I respect all your opinions. I really do. I've just always been one to push the envelope. Never really had a need for speed until now though. I got her up to 170 on my way home from work today on I-271 South. At that speed the neck of my jacket was actually choking me. I only go fast if I've got a nice straight shot. And in and out of cars is at 120 or below, nothing too crazy. Won't be visiting the dragon for a while, but some of us ARE riding down to Fort Meyers Beach, Florida... now I know Deal's Gap is somewhere along the way. Haha, yeah right. I'll save that for a couple years down the road. A question about the limiter... if I want to go over 186 I've got to alter the bike? If so, how?

Leave it alone. Slow down before you need a grassy plot. Fill out a will. Pick out a casket now so your loved ones don't have to.

yea but from what i heared the stock speedo will probly be off so you should get a gps to find out if your realy going 186 or not

know as far as a hayabusa as a first bike its up to you because odds are you'll be dead in the first year; me i can honestly say am one of those few people that picked a busa as a first motorcycle

my best advice is the things that make a busa(the speed power) are very addictive and when things are addictive they have a tendancy of being abused or misused:rulez: and will probably lead to you wanting more.

Best advice for you there!

Can't wait till you come down to Florida and play like that. Bring plenty of $$ your gonna need it. Florida has some strict laws on playful type riding. Fines starting at $1,000.

Florida has some of the worse drivers in the US. Mostly because they are all from somewhere else with their local driving habits being mixed up.

As far as being able to go above 186....

Don't ask us call your mechanic. He's done it on two other bikes during break-ins.

Advice from us seems like it's only going in one ear and out the other with no restrictor(brain).

I'll be nice and give you a link to start with....

No, not a good first bike. Too much power, also heavier cycle to handle too. I would recommend a cheap lighter 600cc for beginning and building up riding experience first. But if you want a Hayabusa, go for it.:cheerleader:

still breathing. Just got home from a dyno shootout. Went 166.35 hp at 168mph. Got beat out by a ZX-14 with a Brock's 4 into 1 exhaust and Power Commander. He went 173.91hp. I was pretty impressed. There was a Street Glide there that pushed 186hp on the motor, couldn't get the bottle to work. It was a bad ass harley.

I my self started with a 650 maxim then, zx600,then zx750,then a zx10. All before i got my love of my life . To be straight forward start slow, then when confident with how streetbikes handle buy bigger, remmeber safety first. when i first tested my busa out in stock form, holy crap the power is above and beyond anything i've driven before. So if you want a busa just remmber to pay your respects to the power YOU WILL control

I most deinitly agree with the everyone whoo said its a beast but its controllable with the the wrist.. I heard the same things from everyone when I turned 16 and got my first sport bike A 99 Suzuki TLR1000...Same weight as the Busa but a lot more to handle...research it...its called the widowmaker for a reason! I was 5 foot 5 and weighed 120 pounds when i rode it off the lot. I took it easy for a year and spent a lot of time circling around parking lots and took both MSF classes. After about a year I started to go to track days and really push it where i wouldnt kill anyone else. The thing was still a beast but it would definitly put a smile on your face! I had the bike for about 3 years and then hit gravel on a cruise ride ( going speed limit) and high sided it...game over! the bike went over the gaurd rail and fell 100 feet into the canyon and i slid to a stop...the guardrail stopped me. Paramedics said i would have been beheaded but my lid took the hit. So here is what i hope you get from my own experiences...No matter what you do, no matter how mature you think you are...you are still going to take a huge risk getting a bike as big as the BUsa right off the bat. I rode dirtbikes for 10 years..everyday 4-5 hours a day until i got my TLR. I played it by the book and still lost. Being in the AF doesnt make the situation better either. Most of the times that I have gotten in trouble were with the guys just screwing around and I have plenty of friends in the service and the are the worst adrenaline junkies out there. Hate to be a buzz kill but take it from a "mature" 25 year old who has his road rash of honor...get a 600..you can still roost the crap out of almost anycar out there( and if you are patient enough to learn a lot of 600 squids)... and you have a lot of room to grow on it.. but it is still light enough to learn on it. Still be careful though and take it slow...I make my living off of keeping stupid people alive and have told plenty a mom that their kid is getting scraped up with a shovel... Stay safe we need you out there!:moon:

Hi all, Im a newbie that got a busa as first bike (ever) and loved it ever since. Im 23, 6'3", 220lbs so the busa was the only bike i felt good sitting on an a year later with a couple mods my love for her grows daily. a lot of my friends went out and got 600 or 750 and when i came home with the busa i think one of my friends sha-it him self. I just figured since i have done over 180 in Germany i figure i could hanlde a busa here in the USA. so for other riders that are new to riding i would go with something smaller but you will never be happy till you ride a busa. As a buddy of mine once said "either your in front leading or your just a follower" and i figure on a busa you dont really follow any one, so.....

I'm 45 and have been riding motorcycles since 1978. I have owned many bikes including 2 busa's and I currently own a ‘08 b king,’ 09 softail deluxe, ‘06 S-40. You can buy and ride any bike you want! I would weigh the advice given on this thread and include your wife in your decision making process. At 22 I could barely afford food, roof and an old car. Insurance alone could be a stopper at your age. OK so you could be independently wealthy I don't know... My advice – novice street rider - 22 year old male - Hayabusa - so-called “40 year old maturityâ€, just doesn't compute... But I probable sound like an old codger! I would put at least 5000 miles - the distance from coast to coast and back - on a less expensive and more forgiving bike...

YOU’RE TWENTY TWO… YOU GOT TIME…

Super bikes are unforgiving heartless machines for everyone but particularly dangerous for those with low seat time... I'm not trying to tell scary stories - Just look at insurance rates. You’re in the military look at its literature on motorcycles and young men…
Good luck whatever the choice! Just remember: full riding gear, learn and practice counter steering, hard braking, ride to live, and enjoy the ride.
