Green light trigger

Anyone ever use one of those magnetic "things" that stick on the bottom of the bike and is suspose to help trigger signal lights to turn green? I guess they help to activate the sensor strips in the road. I got so pi$$ed when I'm at a red light, wanting to make a left hand turn, and the light won't change. I just didn't know if these "triggers" really work. Thanks

I think the only thing those green light triggers do is to make their makers richer

I remember reading an article somewhere that said they are pretty much just a waste of money.

Sometimes you just have to wish there was a car around

I don't bother to stop

I'll have to say something good about the Tennessee State Legislature.  They passed a law last year that allows a motorcyclist to "Run" the light after sitting there a "reasonable" amount of time.  There's no time limit on the law, it just says reasonable.  If I'm there for just a little while with no car coming to help, I'm gone.

Glad someone brought this up, I'd been considering buying one of these triggers.

If I sit at a light more than 2 cycles...I run it at my next opportunity.
You wait for 2 cycles?  much more patient than I.
thats me if its a light I know local that hhas problems for me it does not get half a cycle if no one is coming . And technicly the way the law reads a did stop I just didnt stay..

Talked to cop friend of mine and he said most cops turn the other way when a motorcycle goes through a stop light IF HE IS THE ONLY ONE AT THE LIGHT doesnt work if you have cars around you..

It's a problem here too. You don't want to run the light but what are you supposed to do. Anyone ever get a ticket after running one?

Thats aight, in springfield they local law/ambulance services have a trigger device that always changes the traffic light to green for them when their emergency lights are on to cut down on accidents.

It's a nice device to have on a button on your motorcycle.

+1 Minnesota has that law also

It is just a magnet. It does work if you have mounted the magnet in the lowest possible place (belly fairing) and if you stop right over the loop for the signal.

It has worked for me every time. Of course, I'd much rather stop by a surplus supply and grab some magnets if I had to do it over again.

i have had one for a few years now and can honestly say that it doesn't work. save your money!

Thanks for all the info. Sounds like Ill save my money and look to buy some other trinket!!!LOL

I repair signals, if it was me I would contact your local Police or City Maintenance, Traffic Control office. Could just be a simple adjustment with the detectors.

after a few cycles on the lights i know here we run them and i got pulled over with the mayor and he said you know we are passing a new city ordinance so it is now legal in town to run them

Many states have some provision in their books regarding bikes going through on red after a "reasonable wait" or one cycle. Basically if the light ignored ya once, go on ahead.

Good stuff.
